Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
Anyone going to the Cone Fest this year?
I know. It's the same weekend as Antrim just like last year all over again. BUT with Antrim limiting the field to 60 this year I was thinking that Cone Fest might be able to snake some of the overflow off the waiting list. Cone Fest is a good race for beginners too.
Saturday is the hybrid race in downtown in the middle of the Poage's Landing Days festival.
Sunday is the GS race and after that a downhill speed trap race.
Sign up is over at NCDSA. You can read all about it over there.

If I get doctors clearance for my sugery and a little practice time, I would love to come back. It was a great race. Look forward to it again.

Re: Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
Saturday the race should start around 10 am I would think with warm up and practice around 9 am.
Sunday would be about the same. The downhill starts after the GS. Not sure exactly when that would be.
Zack, what did you do to yourself that you have to get surgery? You knew this race was coming up. I hope you're okay.

I had exertional compartmental release. Or something along those lines. Basically the muscles in my legs did not have enough room to expand. So they cut the inner skin, or grizz and gave me what could be considered large hernias. However, they do not hurt. Between 2 legs I have 19.5 inches of scars on the outside and quadruple that on the inside. This was both legs. Mostly healed, but one may need more stitches.

Am I reading that right? Your muscles are so huge they had to make more room for them? *gulp* I wish that was my problem. My problem is that my gut is so huge it has its own gravity. Any food near by gets sucked right in.
Gravity is my bitch.

I'm gonna be there, with bells on-
Figuratively! I don't think that bells would be smart race gear....
I just have to get some work done on my car or catch a ride,
the 'Ol Brown Buick just ain't what she used to be.
.....the sun is shining an' the kids are shouting loud
but you gotta know it's shining through a crack in the cloud
and the shadows keep falling when johnny comes marching home...

Re: Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
I've said it before, I'm gonna say it again right now - I'VE GOT THE GREATEST BOSS IN THE WORLD!!!! The guy in our department that is trainied as my backup has a family wedding to go to the week leading up to the SFCF. He is from India and is tavelling to India for the wedding. My boss could have very easily told me I can't have Friday off. But instead, he's gonna let me go anyway. He negotiated a backup backup plan whereby things can still get done while my backup and I are gone. I still get Friday as a travel day so I can wake up refreshed and ready to race on Saturday morning.
Part of the compromise is that I can't also have Monday off for a travel day. So I'll hafta drive back to Wisco Sunday night and show up at work Monday morning all bleary-eyed ... but stoooooked!

That's awesome man, so glad you'll be able to make it.
Depending on what time we all get done with classes/work on friday it looks like the michigan crew will be making another drive all night mid-morning arrival hopefully we'll wake up with enough energy, but this time we have secret weapons

Re: Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
a vendor might be bringing some boards and shirts for sale. Shop Troll Designs aka STD aka Feral Arts hopes to show and have some stuff for us to buy. I even heard talk of maybe some wedges. So maybe stick a little extra cash in your pockets.
Here is what he said about what to expect to see at the Cone Fest.
The wood standard bolt Hermaphrodites will start at $60 when purchased at the contest.
Wood/Carbon standard bolt Hermaphrodites will start at $80 at the contest.
Carbon GiVA track decks will start at $130.
Those will be contest prices only.

Re: Cone Fest, Ashland Kentucky
A month and change, Finally the heat in Texas is under the 100's so I can get some practice. On Slalom anyway downhill is not a practice option in Houston.
Can't wait. Hey Lenny you out there? Looks Like you have a pretty good crowd this year, almost at 30 now.
As seen Nowhere.
