Default NH Slalom Clinics & Outlaw Series 2009

I have a couple dates to throw out there, I'm putting on two Slalom Skating Clinic events here in Antrim - home of the Can/Am International Slalom Race coming up on September 18-20, 2009.

The town will let us have a lane of Summer Street, which is the race course, for these days. I envision each day being a couple hours of learn-to with kids and new racers, followed by a couple hours of single lane outlaw races. Might be merely for bragging rights, might involve prizes (we'll see what I can come up with), could possibly involve posterity video that will be spread across the web like that grainy sextape you thought got erased... So please shower and shave, wear your best skategear, and try to make a good impression on the world! We will have A course and B in mind, the former for the demonstration / wow factor, latter to get as many as possible to participate.

Two Dates for the Clinics/Outlaws: The first is to be held on Saturday, July 25th, with the 26th as a rain date. The second will be on Saturday August 22, with the following Saturday August 29th as the rain date.

In the early hours these should really be geared towards getting people involved, helping out the noobs and spreading the stoke. Bring loaner gear if you got it, help out on the course, offer some advice (or take it if you need it). Definitely some real racing after that.

More dates for the Outlaw Series: Gosh, I don't know. I could just make em up and post em - we'll skate just about every Sunday right here in Antrim, and that's sure easy on my crew... But would someone else like to host an outlaw within 2 hours of here? I'd be tickled to get in 5 cool / casual races before coldness comes, and to work with others on putting together an interesting New England race circuit for next year.

I welcome advice and assistance as I can get it, let me know your thoughts and ideas.

I'll post more stuff as it gets sorted out.

It looks like a go for Saturday the 25th. Chance of "isolated" t-storm. That's as good as it gets these days, I'll try to update Friday.

If you are under 18, get a parent to sign the form:

    Thanks!

Next Sunday we do our regular skate session (of course!) if the weather's good. I have a timer (thanks Dr. Dan!) and we'll be doing some single lane timed runs as well as some dual lane racing. This is still for everyone, but tailored for the b group.

Following weekend, Sat the 22nd: Slalom Clinic / Outlaw Race NUMBER TWO on Summer Street. This will be a little "how-to" in the morning, in the casual format that always seems to unfold, followed by kids race, then single lane racing for the big kids. If big kids can be helping little kids early in the day that would be helpful, I'd like to offer them a chance to have some fun, then move on to the "real" racing. This is all about prep for our up and coming slalom skaters getting involved in the Can/Am.

Registration is Reqiuired email or message me for the form.

After That: We have just 3 Weekends before the Big Race (Sept 18-19-20). The Sunday Skates will be all about training. Single and dual courses, ramp practice. Please leave your scooters and fruitboots at home, and don't bomb through the courses

Revenge of Summer Skate: Race Clinic/Outlaw No. 2 is coming up this Saturday Aug 22nd. I'm watching the weather, chance of/scattered events as of right now, the rain date is Sat the 29th.

Kids clinic and race: Registration begins at 9:30 and ends by 11. I'll be counting on a few of our local skaters and parents to help out with this, monitoring traffic, help with timing runs, handing out swapping gear, giving skating tips.

Big boys and girls: I expect to start around 11AM with a course set for practice runs, and race 'til 2PM. The clinic portion will be mixed in with the practice/racing. I'll need a couple local volunteers early and late to move and set up ramp, sunshades, cooler and trash, etc. We'll set the ramp higher on the hill, Tom Cochoran offered his lawn for the starting crew's comfort and shade!

The registration form is here, parent signature required for under 18: Skateboard Slalom Racing Clinic from Avenue A and the Antrim Parks and Recreation Department

If those of you who are hoping to attend could reply ASAP with yes or maybe, that would help! If you can help before, during or after, please include which you prefer.

Bring a couple bucks for lunch or drinks if you like- pizza or dogs/burgers, depending on whether there's a cook to be found.

There will be prizes for all the juniors who race. Possibly for open, women's and B as well.

Sorry, I'm a bit tardy with the results from the first race.

OK, the weather looks like it could be ok, could be lousy. Complete crapshoot. I'm not going to be cowed, but then again I live 2 minutes from the hill. You guys decide whether you want to risk the drive. Call me after 7AM, 603-588-3941 if you want the REAL local weather conditions.

    So, big decision:

    Let's Go!

If it's dry-ish I'll be on the hill by 9AM with boards, timer and cones, maybe not much else. I'll be traveling light. We'll get what racing we can in until we can't anymore. If it rains a little can wrench boards, have lunch and shoot the bull, wait to see how it shapes up...

The Rain Date 8/29: I will probably host another on the next Saturday, regardless. This will be 202 hill, real outlaw. No accoutrements, just a course, a timer, and race results post.

Sunday Skate - 30th? Heck yes. Also on the 202 hill. Training time is now. If anyone wants to camp on my lawn and do both days I'll get a fire going and you can prepare for NH camping, start building up your resistance to mosquito venom.

I'll check email/facebook before midnight - check in if you can.

Well I was thinking about throwing one in Bedford, NH. The high school superintendent has said we could use all of the spots I was thinking of around the school where we could set up a killer giant slalom as well as some good tight runs. Let me know if any would be interested in coming around here and I'll see what I can get arranged. More cones would also help

I'll come. I dont slalom, can't pump, and have never set foot on a slalomesque setup though.
I just wanna chill with some kids who longboard, goof off and enjoy the day.
If you set it up, I'm in and can bring a few kids?

Here's what went out in the email, I'm too lazy/busy to type anything original...

    Hi Skaters,

Last Sunday Skate before the race! See you at the 202 hill aim for 10:00 if you think that will help you get there by 11. I'll be there in that range somewhere, aiming for 10:30.

    *

We'll be Starting with dual hybrid/tight slalom like we ended with last time. We'll race each other, then set the timer on one side for some single lane timed runs.

Ending with giant slalom, Ryan wants to set the course. Timed runs, starting box OR maybe a ramp will appear.

I hope to set a pesty TS course somewhere along the way to work on as we can.

    *

Has everybody REGISTERED? (for the Can/Am sept 18-20)

    *

    Jobs to do -

If anyone has a vehicle with a 2" ball hitch and wants to oversee the delivery and return of the ramp, say so - my car is no longer in service. Antrim guys, ask your friends if you want that rampy goodness. Ramp guys should get to my house before 10:30.

We'll do cookout again, be thinking 2 or 3 bucks would be a good donation towards lunch. Would anyone like to be the side dish coordinator? Otherwise the starch is chips and the veggie is chips

Cook - onsite, I'll bring a spatula this time - any volunteers?

If anyone wants to be the ice cold drink coordinator, let me know, or just do it. Ave A will pay for 'em, and charge for 'em (self serve) if someone else wants to do the running around. I'll bring plain old water (free) as usual. If I have time and energy I'll be the ICDC...

    See you there!

    Dave Kirkpatrick
