rear slipping out, what to upgrade first - grippier wheels or better rear truck?
well, the title pretty much sums up my question.. I've been having problems with the rear sliding out (usually after getting up speed in a hybrid part of a course, then hitting a tight section at speed) and so I'm wondering if I ought to go to a lower duro on the rear wheels (currently running lime/lemon zigs) maybe the pink zigs or something?
or if I ought to invest in a better rear truck (currently running the rts/fulltrack hanger combo from skatekings) like a seismic or an airflow rather than getting grippier wheels first.
thoughts?

stoked sells individual wheels,i would try pink in back limes in front. might help a bit.
do you have the rear truck de wedged?
seven os are grippy suckers.
cheaper then buying a airflow truck.

Dewedge that bad boy and try it again.. Also other than having a true 8mm axle that is straight .. another thing you may try is to shift your rear foot a tad bit when getting into those sections to increase the weight over the rear truck.

You already have very grippy slalom wheels, unless you have used them to slide and drift.
Like Ogre says:
1- Increase dewedge to 17° to 20° from flat (not from the kick tail, if you have one).
2- Work on your technique. Move the rear foot a little bit more to the back and see what happens.
3- And play around with a different bushing combo too. Try something harder than what you currently use.

I had pinks on the front and lemons on the rear of my subsonic pulse for ldp and when you pump hard enough or carve the lemons would break loose. So now I put pinks all the way around it did help a little but when you do go faster they do slip out.

You may need to work on your weight distribution. You may have not enough weight over the rear or you could have too much. Both will make your rear slide depending on road conditions and how hard you turn. So play with your footing and weight placement.

+1 to foot placement, makes such a huge difference

There's been plenty of good advice here, stuff that costs little or nothing. But you should try a Seismic Stable-Turn sometime. Great stick for not much cash. I prefer the Seismic over an Airflow for traction.

definitely work on foot placement and weight distribution
don't know what your rear truck is, but I used to run an RTS flat with no wedge and it didn't slip out. Your wheel setup is fine.
at the most you can try wedging your rear truck more

I grew up loose-goose and actually feel at home with a fishy rear - hey now, no jokes.
problem is traction loss that keeps times low - I still suffer from it. Best advice I ever received was to use harder bushings in the rear and to tighten it up in the back. Wheels help, and I think foot placement too still I think you will find if all else stays the same tighten the rear and make sure it's not too wide as well. There my two cents...

Unless your less then 100 lbs. the wheels are fine.
The boys are talking about weight distribution. Bend that rear leg more at the KNEE, Lower your ASS and that should help. Make sure your working on level shoulders......
We all tend to reach for cones as we head further down the line. The trick is to reach but not lean out over the over the front wheels.
Try everything mentioned and get back to us......
Good Luck and have fun......

Dewedge the rear before you spend a bunch of cash. Foot placement is critical as well.

so I changed out the bottom back bushing (was running double barrel trackers (95a?) and swapped in a 90a eliminator) and that has seemed to really help. also, been getting lower and moving my back foot out to right over the rear truck.
thanks all.

Cool! Good news. Now you can try minute changes and see what else can be gained. Small and measurable changes; try not too change too many variables at the same time. As Claude would say "many happy pumps".

I have the same problem. I thought if i leaned on the back of the board more it will help. It helped but it got very unstable at turning.

The answer there is to either de-wedge your current truck a bit more, or replace it with a more stable truck...

BOYZ you need trucks and don't let anyone tell you anything else. If you’re charging it you have to have an offset back truck or you’re going to slide out and get worked! Hell if I could ride $20 RTX, RTS I would and so would every other top racer. Dan’s trucks are great back trucks for the money and works really good for GS.... the splitfires work the best for me....

true spec'd 8mm axles that are straight is the basis of traction.. wheels that are out of alignment and have slop in the axles will never grip well. No matter the amount of dewedge.
