Default September 2010 CONE FEST V

We're still working on several details, but I want all y'all to mark your calendars for the third weekend in September next year for the 5th annual Southern Fried Cone Fest.

Here's a rundown of what we're planning so far:
    Same locations as years past.
Addition of a banquet/party Saturday night.
BIG additions to the prize bounty (stay tuned for more on that).
    Bigger PA system
(If enough people are down) 1st timers race.

We're also working on keeping the cost down. Most people dig only a $20 entry fee.

Personally I'd LOVE to see vendors on the hillside. EVERY year at the cone fest, I have at least 5 or so people come up and are stoked on slalom and want to know where they can get a slalom board.

    More news coming, stay tuned.

I'd also like to do some research. A race is nothing without racers. What (within reason) would you guys like to see added to the SFCF?

    Thanks.

Oh heck yeah. Maybe the Yerkes will have enough Bees Knees Skathletics boards to sell. I'm stoked. I went ahead a year and put it in my calendar.

I think that at the finish line for the GS you need to have a donut hanging from a string. After you cross the finish line you have to take a bite as you ride by. No bite, run doesn't count.
    My Quiver?

Too many boards that I don't ride enough...

Can we get the street at the end of Ramey closed? I know it'll probably hard to do, but when we were DH'ing on Ramey, stopping before the stop sign was "interesting."

Working on it, but the city's not too stoked on it.

We'll definitely be there again next year and we'll bring tons of 'Bees Knees Skathletics' product with us for sale. We also plan on donating a deck as a prize. Can't wait!

So if I eat the whole thing does everyone else auto-dq? Or would you replace the donut at that point?

I'd have come to the race this year but it was the same weekend as the race in Antrim. Is it possible to get a week or two distance between each race? If not, I'll just have to pick one race to attend again.

    thanks

It's a bummer (always has been, always will be), but completely unavoidable. The race is part of a city festival that's the 3rd weekend in September. It's been that way for 13 or 14 years and I simply can't get that changed.

Nah, bro! This is Poage Landing! It's be a fried pickle on the string!

Given the problem with run out I am thinking that maybe the speed trap is not the safest event idea. I'd hate to see someone run that intersection again and get hit by a car. As much fun as that hill is to run, it is not worth the safety of the racers in such an event. It was my idea to begin with but now I think it was not the best idea. So maybe we need to think of something else.

I'm thinking more about longboard slalom events.
Setting gates so you have to thread the needle maybe. Or maybe a pick up sort of race where you have to try to pick up as many cones as you can before crossing the finish line. Something different.

The DC Outlaws used to have a longboard slalom race at their races in the past. Was always a fun thing to do. Boards had to have a certain wheelbase axle to axle to qualify as a longboard.

Sniffeless: All of us Go Green guys were bombing it Saturday night and there's definitely time to stop before the stop sign if you're willing to footbrake or slide.

    I remember those- fun times!

Just for kicks and laughs, I'm also kicking around the idea of "new school" (i.e. popcicle board) slalom: you have to use a "street board" with a wheel hardness at least 98 A. Am I the only one that thinks that'd be funny to watch and skate?

I think that Sniffleess has a point but it could be solved by letting people starting from where the feel comfortable. I do remember Peter and the other Go Green (Jason ?) going across the road though, a car would have ended your fun real fast. We could also use Hay bales at the end.

Lenny I woiud be up for newskool slalom I would suck But I would try it.

That was me and Tom (Tagsrover). We were really under control, except for the rain haha. Hay bales could be good but probably expensive.
