And as long as I have a job, and have a little extra money, I will help out whenever I can. I think what you are talking about is a good idea on paper, but have a feeling we will still be talking about this for a very long time. It is up to the ones that have an extra $5.00 or $10.00 or more, to step up and help. Buy one less pack of cigarettes or one less 6 pack of beer. Throw some $$$ where it's needed. Stop talking about it! Talking about it pisses me off!!! Talk is cheap!
i love it when you get all hot and sassy...look at you showin' your BOLD and such!
I would be cool if a rider could declare his/her class at the beginning of the year. At races, Riders will be split into classes based on times. For Scoring, racers will receive points based on where they place amongst riders with the same declared class.
ex.. Little Bobby has declared 'B' class, but qualifies for the 'A' class at the Wiggle War. Bobby only takes 8th in the 'A' class, but no other 'B' class racer has finished higher, so Bobby will receive 1st place points amongst declared 'B' racers.
In some ways, this would be an improvement on the ISSA point system. Earlier this year, my brother took 1st in 'Am' while I took 8th in 'Open' at the same event. Under ISSA rules, he'll get more points even though I was a little faster that day. This system would prevent this.
I like the idea of females receiving some sort of discount at races.
It would be cool if 'x' amount from each member fee could go towards end of the year cash prizes for the top racers in each class. have something like 60% to A class podium, 25% to B class podium, 6% for A class Rookie of the Year, 4% for B class rookie of the year, 5% for female class (girls can also compete for mens prizes),
This would give us all something to shoot for throughout the year, besides bragging rights.
I'm looking to start something similar on the statewide level here in Michigan (MSSA). It could serve as a small feeder circuit to the USSAA. We would also like to hold a race sanctioned on a national or world level. It would be awesome if our MSSA main event could also be scored as a lower level USSAA race.
Michigan boys on board! (and girls when we find them)

So far this is the support we have.
1. Wiggle War-Tom Manglesdorf
2. Kentucky Cone Fest-Lenny Poage
3. Texas Cold Fusion Sizzler-Eddy Martinez
4. Pat Chewning-Casscade Slalom
5. Jack Smith-Morro Bay
6. Gary Glasser-Coss Boys.
Support is good. We would be a voice to be reckoned with.
Austin Texas The Worlds 2011. Racing DownTown Austin. State Capital down the street. Media Exposure BIGTIME. We are vying for the Worlds in 2011. It has been to the West Coast and East Coast. Let's bring it home to TEXAS IN 2011

I'd like to echo Jeremy echoing Cat aabout A,B,C and not Pro status.
One of the ideas I have for the Cone Fest that may play into the association is to have a "loaner pool" of boards for kids new to slalom to try out at races. Almost every time I organize a race, there are at least one or two kids who get stoked, but only have "kickflipper" boards.

Alas, poor Yorick! He was my homeboy!
Happens at the Wiggle War too. Fortunately, all of us (most of us?) have more than one board, and the newbies can always borrow a skate.
There is one thing that I keep thinking about, and I really don't know how to mention it ... The Wiggle War is a charity evenrt. 100% of the racers entry fees go right to the Colonial Club Senior Activity Center here in Sun Prairie. Through all this online discussion and even from the 1st time Eddie and I talked about it on the phone, there has been talk about a flat-rate USSAA entry fee that helps pay for good things the USSAA does.
I really want to support the USSAA. However, I kinda like giving all the moolah to the Colonial Club. So My question is ... how do I work that at the Wiggle War?
There's prolly a simple solution, but I'm too stupid to see it. Someone with a bigger brain needs to point it out to me.

There could be a flat rate + optional race administrators fee. Maybe cap the optional fee to keep races financially accessible.
While we're on the topic, would the USSAA post a public financial record? Not try to dip my nose where it doesn't belong, I'm just curious as a potential racer, race sponsor, and as someone who would like to hold a USSAA race.

OK..I am again healthy (body, not mind) so lets put the ideas in a pot...finally
Lets get a thought out on email!
Email
So get your ideas in a nice easy read format. And type slowly cuz I am certainly not a very bright man. Now you can send them all to me. I will put them in a several page MSWord doc, and then resend to all who wants to help pick out what is what.
Soo..write to what you think that will make it work.
Make it simple. Its doesn't have to be all complex all at once.
Where to start..??
We need a goal.
We may need a point system..?
A mission statement?
Membership fee? Yes No? Membership No fee?
etc. etc.
Title your email/doc with what section(s) you are wrestling with.
Important Note
There are other people who are sincerely involved in slalom and are trying a similar path through a bigger door. Great! because the goal(s) should be the same. Keep up slalom. Get more people involved in slalom.
But, should that door opening become smaller, we all should be ready to collectively put our foot in the door. Whether it be our good looks and or enthusiasm to help solidify amateur slalom for the future.
We may not get this going (if at all) until 2011. We know that we have seen slalom struggle a bit and at the same time make some decent strides. That would be the newer younger way too much skill kids who have lost all but some of their senses and like slalom. YAY for them!!!
Me
I am simply an idea kinda guy and part time cheerleader. People with more brain cells will be needed to help these ideas along. If you don't like me (get in line) thats OK. You can email your idea to Eddie or Tom for example.
You
I am hoping we get some of you to help us all along. I am talking to everyone that has an idea to help. I am also hoping that the usual suspects will put their ideas to task.
The informal slalom gruppo would be, I guess:
Cat Young (Reppin' the slalom estrogen, obviously)
Tom Manglename
Eddie "The Irishman" Martinez
Lenny Poage
..and then insert your name here.
Because anyone should have a chance to participate if they so choose.
P.S
If you email, please wait for a confirmation. Your email may get sent to my SPAM box. It is unlikely since my regular email box has seen its share of porn, penis extension and of course -insert African country send me all of your personal info and money- email.
I definitely want to support this. I can't give you great ideas, or voice up on rules and such... but I can give you feedback on how it all looks from a new guys point of view, and I for one, feel thats important. How will people (read: groms) stay happy and advance in the sport if we don't listen to them, encourage them, and teach them.
I might be new, and unknown to you all, but I want this to happen, and I want to know you all. I want to learn, and eventually race, and along the way, hopefully teach someone and get them on the same path.
I'm hoping I can travel to a race or two (or more?) in spring or summer... not likely to compete, but to learn and skate and have fun. I need someone to learn from, and I think more races, and a national league is a good prospect

Looks like the ISSA wants to adopt our ideas and run with them. So I do not know if this is in our best interest. Be it or not. The ISSA sets the rules and guidelines for us to follow. With out rules were would we be. On this I agree. I did not see many or no pros offer to assist with the amatures on Friday at the races with a Slalom Clinic. Giving back to the sport is very important. There is no money to be made in our sport. No big sponsors. I still believe that the Pros should hold clinics the day before a contest. Even if it is 50 cones on flat, does not matter. Spread some of your slalom knowledge with the rest of the Amatures. I do believe the USA needs a Slalom Association. We need unity. Being fairly new to the sport, I don't know how much I have to contribute to the idea pool, but I do want to say that I fully support the idea of a national slalom league here in the US.
I organized a race that was held in September and it was a great day. It was the first event I've hosted and only the third race I had been to. If something like this had been in place while I was organizing I think it would have been a much easier process. It's hard to ask sponsors for prizes when all you've got is "well, I've applied for ISSA sanctioning." I also didn't know if we would have a timer system until a week or so prior to the event (if I remember right).
Something like this to help unify event hosts/organizers and pool resources would be tremendously helpful for future events. I've had ideas about a national collegiate championship (for TS/HS, not enough hills around here for GS) floating around in my head for quite a while now and an association like this could be just the governing body the event is looking for. Let ISSA handle the world championships, but establish this national league to govern the national titles.
I also like the idea that events can 'level up' and be sanctioned by more than one body. For example, a state Major status race might be a national Major or Main as well, and an ISSA Main or Prime. The race I hosted was ISSA prime, but it is one of the few (only?) races to be held in Indiana this year.
Anyway, those are some thoughts. Feedback or added suggestions are more than welcome.
UNITY!
(oops, was that cheesy? sorry.)
