Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
Agility is not what matters with that rear truck... the narrower hanger will make it lean a bit easier, but its mostly the extra grip and stability from the precision hanger. The Bennett/Skennett front is definitely much more agile than most trucks

Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
hey guys, I'm considering setting up a slalom board (PPS chicken), I already have a Bennett 5.0 and a matching RT-S was wondering if they're too wide to use?

Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
Thats wider than normal for HS, huge for TS, and still probably wider than your average GS setup, but it will work. Rock what yah got for now, get some narrower ones later

thanks for the help! I have access to a CNC mill which I could maybe use to mill them down, but I'd either have to mill them down like 20mm and use bearing spacers to space out the axles or rip out the axles and replace them which I have no idea how to i think? should i try either? or maybe mill down the Bennett and then buy a new RT-S or something?

If you can swing it with the place that has a mill or CNC I'd replace the axle(s) as well with 8mm stock.. You'd be surprised at the difference in performance ie: grip.

i just "milled" mine down last week. my bennett 5.0 is now 105mms spaceable to 125mm. i used a counterbore and a drill for a rough cutdown. then when it was small enough to fit in my drill press i used it.
i chucked the hanger and viced the counterbore.

Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
just a quick question, i have a fullbag death or glory on the way...today i grabed some 139 rts/x for them. Im wondering if these will be a little wide for it. Im planing on using this just for some dh and cruise slalom. nothing race serious. lemme know if i should trade em for some 129a

Skating hills is what I do most on my Ricard. Carve, pump, or bomb. Just don't try sliding, I don't think its possible on my board...
I was thinking of getting a Death or Glory and RTX/S 126 for it, and run freeride wheels.

Oh so it's not fast stuff. I thought that you meant like tucked 60km/h stuff

I've only taken it to 20 or so, but I plan on bringing it up to 30 or so soon, tucked, no turns. Nothing really fast, but its fun going fast. A GS/SGS board would be really nice though, especially with slippery wheels and little enough wedging to drift

so would 129s be prime? Im not tryna have my wheels sticking out like a speedboard

129s would be goo don that board, yes. The wheels might stick out a little, if you're using wide wheels, but thats not a bad thing

Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
i'm thinking about making my legendary gnome a slalom board. but the thing is it's already high off the ground anyway, so if i put wedges on there i feel it'll be uncomfortable. so is it possible to make that board (with paris 150) slalomable? lol
-
Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
im pretty sure the 150's will be too wide.
im trying to dial in my subsonic saint setup. i definitely need more risers and longer hardware. should i get some 3" khiros? or will they not be sufficient

Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
Can you wedge a drop through for slalom? I want to get a drop through Gnome soon for fun and TS, plus they look damn cool.
Also I was riding Tracker 129 RTs/x on my LDP/GS board and decided to do some short but steep downhill for the hell of it (about 4-500m). It was damn unstable, but I managed to ride out the wobbles and now I'm thinking I might pad up and do it more often to tone the muscles in my feet/legs. You think that will work?
Oh come on gravity, you used to be cool...

Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
Drop throughs aren't best because of the lack of leverage, and loss of grip. My experience with wedged trucks on drop-thrus has NEVER been good, they always felt very dead to me

Re: Help for New Slalomers! (please read)
Practicing with cones on flat surface like tennis courts is really helpful. It will teach you how to pump your board to keep your speed through the cones, then when you do a downhill course, it will be sooooo easy for you. Here is a link to some OLD footage of me from the seventies practicing slalom on a tennis court.

Thinking about starting out with this setup offered very reasonably by a certain shop:
Z Flex Jay Adams re-iss 29"
Bennett 4.3's
Alligator 78's
Tell me why and why not, but it is a deal.

Could be fun if you put on a tracker 106 in the back and double, wedge -dewedge... other wise it's a fun but sketchy old school pool setup... Sick
