i was glad to see this correction recently on ncdsa. cyber is just a small part of the slalom bucket, and all it's credibility for the online ranking relies on the trust system.
==================================== corrected time On 2/28/2008 Guillaume wrote in from France (83.202.nnn.nnn) I've asked Adam to remove my first time and update with the one I made at our last Pirate race, where we take time to set up a perfect cyber race
update is 8.927
Allan's time on this day was 8.373
====================================
so Dong's record is back on top where it belongs i've seen over the years how much effort it takes shaving those last tenths and hundreths of a second -- my 'best' was 9.25 last year so far but i still won't post that until I can nail it consistently and actually I'm hoping to get in the 8's before posting again... maybe next year, but maybe longer.
cyber's been marginally popular in the NW this winter, the desire to pursue this course comes and goes, but it's a cool way to isolate the sheer physical sprinting and pumping strength, and even-out your heelside and toeside pumps. and I've got no doubt it improves your game in all other courses. now that the sun's finally peeking out, we'll mostly leave it until our next wet winter.
Did a moderator delete one or more posts after pavedwave's post of 09-07-2008 09:53 PM?
I can only wonder, because I would NEVER post anything like "Phail phail phail" in regard to Michael, James or any of the Seattle crew. As I just wrote to James in a PM, the only thing I can think of that would lead me to post something like that would be if someone else was being a complete a$$hole--either posting something demeaning toward the Seattle crew, or a spambot infesting the forum, or something else equally outrageous. As it stands now, however, it looks like my post refers to pavedwave's post, which was NOT my intent. (Heck, I don't know WHAT my post was referring to, but all I can think of is it's in response to someone ELSE posting something mean-spirited about Michael or James.
I was hoping I could simply edit my "Phail" post to say "Congratulations," but the Edit option doesn't seem to be there. So just in case anyone reads this and thinks I'm insulting Michael, James, or even cyber slalom, I am not. I have nothing but respect for those guys, and it would make me very sad if anyone saw my post and thought otherwise, even in error.
Michael, congratulations on your accomplishment, and James, thanks for the PM bringing this to my attention.

No prob Jonathan! Thought it seemed out of place, especially given your positive take even just on the previous page.
I was just out searching for cyber threads after coming off the buzz of our 2nd session yesterday. We're not using timers yet, just trying to get a new course set. We have to work around some newly installed sets of traffic turtles and get on the good side of a whole new security crew first...
The course:
1. Flat area.
2. Start line with 3-foot Starting Box drawn so the box shares its front side
with the Start Line and evenly straddles the Cone Line.
3. 15-feet past Start Line is first of 25 cones spaced 6-feet on center.
4. 15-feet after last cone is Finish Line (174 feet total start-to-finish).
How to run it:
1. One foot on board, push foot on ground within 3-foot Starting Box.
2. Board must cross Start line between the front corners of the Starting Box.
3. Time starts when board crosses the Start Line.
4. Time stops when board reaches Finish line.
5. Any cone displaced DQ's.
If your course is not flat, please run it in both directions and post the average of your best time in each direction. Post as many entries as you like, only your fastest time will display.
Your 4-digit access code is unique to you, meaning that you can update your time whenever you wish. Only your best time will display in the standings.
Credit goes to Neil G, who as near as we can tell was the first to propose this idea on ncdsa.com way back on Sept 11, 2000. Neil's First Annual World Wide Web Slalom Challenge eventually morphed into the Cyber Slalom Challenge, but the idea is essentially the same. Ncdsa.com is proud to be able to further fulfill our charter by promoting the sport of skateboarding through the exchange of information. Let the games begin!
Considering the laws of physics, the only things I can think that might be making a downgrade course slower than a flat for you would be 1. surface is much worse on the downgrade than on your flat course, 2. your downgrade is always against the wind (not so likely) 3. your pumping is actually more efficient on flats or upgrades (even less likely)
I'm thinking the loss in time for pumping uphill is greater than the gain in time on a very slight decline. Averaging on a grade is not equal to flat (or maybe not the same for all skaters, abilities).
Just a guess made wildly, I'm a ditchdigger, not a physicist.
Sunday morning pounding rain meant Cyber slalom #2 in the Northwet this season! We finally got the kinks in our timing system worked out and marked a new regulation course.
Best times of the day:
Michael Dong - 8.373 (no practice all year)
Brad Jackman - 9.194 (consistently in the 9.2's)
James Peters - 9.471
John Stryker - 9.569
Dave Addington - 10.401 (most runs and most improved for the day)
Dave Johnson - 10.604 (first timed cyber)
GForce Glenn - 11.629
