You can make them! I can't do EVERYTHING. I provided those other images as examples for inspiration but they are property of our team.

here are some CAD programs.
http://www.freebyte.com/cad/cad.htm

But its also possible to make a simple template as I described using a piece of long paper folded in half and drawing half the profile.

A good questionmentioned was about the concave, Can i do the wood by buying 7 layers or Xlayers, depends on each boarding using the vacuum system WITH concave?

Didn't really understand your question. But this tutorial is for FLAT slalom boards. Pressing (or laminating) bends into wood is a whole other ball game and I don't have the time to write a tutorial for that. I suggest you check out the roarockit kit and read up on laminating in the Board Bulding thread.

Best of luck!

I trying to scratch a model by hand, though i think this is going to be way to short, i ride longboards, and all my longboards have more then 44" Lenth....

I am kind of finding it very funny to have such a short wheel base.

What is the biggest wheel base for a slalom board possible???

Please help me out people!!!!!

To make sure i got the instructions right:

I measured 8,5" from the middle of the deck toward the ends of the board, which will have 29" of lenth, and therefore i get 19" of WHEELBASE.

Question Re: DIY: BUILD YOUR OWN SLALOM DECK

Man....i am very confused now about this wheelbase thing,

I have a sector 9, which has 44" L x 9.5" W, WB: 21.75" Though i measured it now and it is completely different from what the website says (Which based in the thread info above, it actually has: 25.025").

The threat posted means Wheelbase by 20" from "these will be your two outermost inside boltholes"

Therefore i assumed that the wheelbase means the lenth in between this holes:

wheelbase.jpg

I am wrong??? HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skateboard wheelbase is (incorrectly) measured from inner mounting hole to inner mounting hole, just as your image shows. The reason for that is trucks vary in where the axle lines up with the holes on the baseplate. If you had 2 of the same deck, but set one up with Randals, and the other with Indys, you'd have about a 2" difference in "real" (axle to axle) wheelbase.

"Wheelbase" really isn't the correct term, but after all these years of usage, I guess we're stuck with it...

Default Re: DIY: BUILD YOUR OWN SLALOM DECK

1. wheelbase is measured that way because it is the only consistent method of comparing boards, however calling it wheelbase is arguably wrong

2. no 19" is not to short for slalom, some guys ride 17". however, there is no constant 'right' wheelbase
so if you've got, say a 21" you can set up a course to challenge it.

basically the closer the cones, the shorter the wheebase, so a tight slalom with 6 foot cones
is usualy hit with 18 - 19 1/2 depending on the rider. And a giant slalom is anywhere up to 34" depending on the hill / rider

Can i build it up assuming 19" measuring 19" From the middle of the front baseplate till the middle of the rear baseplate though?

Another question:

I am trying to desing a board for a all around, kind of "MINI with a good carving feeling"

Would this measures of a slalom board be good for it??? As i'll be probably getting revenge trucks for it or perhaps if i save money enough, i could try some real slalom trucks!

What do u guys think???

You can use any WB you want, the area around 19" is pretty much the standard fare, you shouldn't really go to wrong with that design, it truly comes down to height/weight/stance/race/hill/rider/bowel movements...speaking of which, designs are not too hard to think up; a bit of shaping creativity never hurt anyone, hell we started like that..Look at the major companies and what the smaller groups are producing and it will give you a base to think off...

If you do it that way, what you're calling 19" will measure out to about 16.5" by the standard everyone else is using. And that's pretty short by slalom standards (they usually don't go under 18", even for tight slalom). You may find that a board that short with Revenge trucks will be way too quick turning. For a board that short, I'd personally run unwedged Trackers or Indys...

Thanks dude, the problem actually was not designing a unique shape, but i really got messed up with this wheelbase thing, cause i thought it had to be really proper measured!

Anyways where do u come from?
