My daughter caught me drawing curves on a template and said, "could it just be pointy?"

She came up with this. 18" WB max, although I think I see 2 more inches there.

Reminds me of something... Axe? Yep. looks like.

I screwed and glued 2 pieces of 1/4 BB although it's flat, if I had a 1/2 piece it would have been a lot easier.

Fessing up, I did trace it, cut it out, adjusted the length a couple inches, and marked and drilled the WB. Sanded it, varnished it.

But it's hers, she'd proud, her design!

It will get 106 rts/x and retro zigs, and she's holding out for clear grip.

Great tutorial!

I got started on a deck someone let me use at the workshop in antrim.

Then i build my own and placed 2nd in a beginner race. not a huge deal but im glad i gave it a shot.

Not only do i love building and will keep doing it, but i really loved getting a feel for the sport.

i cant wait to race again, and look at getting set up better for it.

if i had pushed harder i would be riding a red barren. the point is. i slalom and it is fun as hell no matter what i ride.

Peace

Guys,
Is there any advantage to placing/drilling the rear truck in the kick tail instead of in front of it? Also, if you put the rear truck in the tail, does it need to be wedged, dewedged or flat?

when you put it on the tailyou can get more wheelbase for you length which helps when going through the cones cause you have less board to knock cones. Also you can put your foot on the tail which I think would be a problem if the truck wasn't there and you were pumping all crazy I could see the tail popping up and you dieing. On slalom boards you usually dewedge the rear truck and this stays the same on a kicktail board

Here's the finished pic of my girl's board, woodshop wedges and all, and my new build. The King made the cool griptape flower after I showed him one I admired here on the Fish.

A moment ago I stole all her parts to try out:

MINE

is 31 inches long, drilled for 18 to 22 wb. I'm experimenting with this inside the shape bottom piece - I think I've seen it done here before. I got both pieces out of a single plank of 1/4BB. I call it a prototype, because it is. I built it fast and dirty, to skate it and see if it holds up, see if it rides ok, see how much flex this gets me (not going for flex, but it must flex more than 2 full-sized pieces.) Not my best work. Note the ratty drill holes. I doubt you'll see the imperfect outline, or notice the hurryup poly coat... that kind of thing makes me cringe a bit, but all dressed up it looks better than it did an hour ago.

I created the shape with basic specs from this thread (Thanks Joe!), bent rulers and extra hands, eyeballed it and trimmed it a couple times. This was all about getting it out of one plank. I think there's one more inch of length to be had if I fuss more with the layout and cutting.

I'm dying to try it. I'll make a bunch of them if it passes muster.

We hope to skate on some of the few unsanded / salted roads this weekend. The clock is ticking on that one.

edit: Hmmm, why links, not pics?

Rrr, got it. You CAN see the rough finish! Sweet. And I stole my own parts, not hers, I guess I was thinking about that, but went for the bigger wheels.

Long day.

sweet setups. Struck boards sells a variety of blank decks, flat slalom, kicked flat, single kick with mellow concave and a few others. I haven't used them myself but they may be worth looking at.

Depends on if you are willing to build a press or not. I build a brodie press that works great and is easy to build and operate, and its not fragile. You can always put the edges of the plank on some 2x4 and clamp one down the center basically a press just not as thorough I don't think.

Good luck.

PS. making a coarse is one thing but when you can do it on ur own hand made deck its feels even better.
