new board decision...
Freed up some money to start slaloming, i'm currently look for a deck, trucks and wheels.
Trucks i got a bennett(how are these?? i was thinkning about sending them to geezer x to get tooled down) and an rtx(hopefully RTs soon) and wheels im looking at an 86/80A split avilas. Now the deck...i can't seem to choose from the AxeII, Pocket Pistols hardcore/econcave series, or the skatebuilt cone killers. Any input would be helpful!

Re: new board decision...
What kind of slalom are you looking to get into? tight, hybrid, gs?
for tight, i recomend a PPS Brown Bomber
GS, maybe like a PPS duane peters, or chicken dagger
I wouldn't recomend avalons. I would go with something like a Hotspot, Zig Zag or Manx. Also, I would recomend a 80/83 split duro. While an 86 often wont slide, it will chatter around.

Re: new board decision...
avilas are too big for most slalom, especially tight/hybrid.
I would recomend a PPS brown bomber for that, with 80/83a, 70mm Zig Zags
that is a killer setup, trust me.

Justin
both the Skaterbuilts and the Axes are awesome boards, I would suggest tose over the Bomber...If you are going to get a Pistol Id go for a smokestack, as it is more of a swiss army knife for TS?hybid than the bomber...I feel the bomber is kinda big for true TS
Avalons are kina big for TS/Hybrid...but great wheels nonetheless....I agree with the hotspots/zags/manx sizing for you...and I ride 86 in front 90% of the time...they are fine

Re: new board decision...

Both those decks are the product of racing and design work, including podiums at a La Costa Open. The SS29 is a very popular board in the Silverfish loaner-board pool at clinics and has podiumed under a racer that borrowed it for CCMF racing in San Luis Obispo. WillJ races the 32"-er in hybrid and GS. We have three boards that get rave reviews from skaters at events and that seem to lead to those skaters buying one of their own: Axe (1&2), SS29 and Rayne Timeline.
That said, neither come setup for slalom, as completes. They're sold more as "slalom style all-arounders" like Wax may have been alluding to. If the SS29 now comes with Bennetts, it could sure be setup for it, pretty quickly, though.
The setup we've had great luck with on the SS29 is Tracker 106mm RT-s/x, dewedged/wedged, Khiro's, and either 66mm or 70mm ZigZags, depending.

Re: new board decision...
Personally I just feel the Gavity slalom boards are more causual than the race designed AXE line, and the Skaterbuilts....
I have ridden both Gravity boards and find them to be more of around town or Campus cruisers...
When I step on my Skaterbuilts ( TS and Hybrid) or either of my sons Axes (1, 2, and 3) I know its race time!!!

With that said do you think the SS29 is every bit of a slalom board with a proper set-up (that you mentioned) in comparison to the Timeline. What do you like and dislike about the SS29 compared to the other SL/GS boards mentioned. I'm looking for something snappy, quick, and surfy for 165lbs. If the SS29 is an equal then it really should be a great deal at around $60.
