wedge nose slalom board
Admittedly, Im new to slalom, but hopefully someone can shed some light on a deck issue for me.
Simply put, why are ther no wedge nose slalom decks out there?
After seeing some of the "turny" wedge nose downhillers, you would think that the idea may creep into slalom. Instead of these dramaticlly wedged spacer set ups, why not turn up the nose and de-tune the tail of the deck itself?
Probably a just another uniformed newbie question...

Re: wedge nose slalom board
but that just has a kick-nose, the front truck isn't wedged by the deck, the only thing I can say is that if the truck was mounted wedged directly by the deck then the deck would have a lower front end than the (I'm assuming) megawedged rear truck which could lead to some serious wierdness.

ive seen some in my slalom faring days, only a few, i forget the details

Re: wedge nose slalom board
that would be pointless cause you stand on the front truck and you need risers anyways
hey yo son that's my name whats the word?

Re: wedge nose slalom board
I don't know if it would be pointless. It might help in the same way the wedge tail on an Axe helps, to give you better footing.
I'm a man...I can change...if I have to...I guess.

Re: wedge nose slalom board
mabey but using flat risers on a wedge nose would put the pivot point further from your foot, less leverage. also some trucks are made to be used flat. splitfires or fyres on a 60 degree plate etc

Re: wedge nose slalom board
but wouldn't a wedged nose be somewhat inconvienent? I mean, you'd always need to factor in the wedge of the deck when determining the riser/wedge combo of your trucks.
i just thing a flat-mounted deck is easier.

Re: wedge nose slalom board
consider wheelbite up front. and consider that a turned up nose
would be very awkward for your front foot. my $.02

Re: wedge nose slalom board
I'd think a wedge nose would make the deck more self centering...just the opposite
of what we're trying to do with a slalom set up... which in a way, is basically, ..."tuning in" some "instability" in the front....if that makes sense???

Re: wedge nose slalom board
if this design worked then schlong boards would be the best slalom boards and we all know this isnt happening

Re: wedge nose slalom board
It's been done. I've also been shown a thick moulded foam board thing with strangely disturbing mountings on the bottom, a deeply unwholesome board/wedge mutant, loathsome and revolting from a deep, instinctive level, like a burning cloud shocking the eyes and nose. It looked like the gruesome remnantsa of some battle between deep sea creatures, regurgitated by the restless sea onto the helpless beach, a rotting slab of squid, a wretched torn pile of green flesh, inexplicably forming itself with the urgency of repressed fears into an indecipherably angular monstrosity, putrid green curves erupting in the growing panic of confusing and terrifying angles, pulsating it's blasphemously depraved urge towards the inevitable horror of the wedged nose and dewedged tail.
Anyway, the problem with what you're suggesting, shlonging it for slalom, is as previously mentioned: You lose the responsiveness when you lower the deck. It just hasn't worked well in slalom, at least so far. You need a bit of elevation, just a bit, for the right twitchy/drivey steering. Angle is only part of the equation. Overall pumpability is the goal.

Re: wedge nose slalom board
I've kind been toying around with the idea of doing an s-cambered slalom deck but opposite the normal direction such that the nose would be wedged and the tail dewedged. I find a mildly lowered area under the front foot also makes the board easier to push. Might have some problems with your back foot wanting to come off the board but you could throw some foam on to compensate

Re: wedge nose slalom board
Stevie,
You got a good nights rest EH?? you metaphoric marvel!!!
Yeah, having your front foot hanging in what is essentially a "hamock" more behind the
pivot of the front truck negates the advantage you want to have "over" it....
I can see SPoKe's logic in trying to simplify truck wedging though....

Funny Steve...that description reminds me of a lingcod!

Re: wedge nose slalom board
having your front foot on a wedged up nose seems like it would tweek out your foot, a rear wedge isnt meant to assist turning as much as it is intended to hold your foot for grip.
