    Default First foam core

Yo fish, I've got a pretty expansive quiver, but I don't own a foam core yet. My buddy had a wefunk TS for awhile, but it broke very easily. We think that maybe it was due to riding it in the cold and then bringing it inside and the quick tempurature change weakend the foam. In any case, it seems that foam cores are more fragile than wood cores. I live in Vermont and therefore spend a good part of the year skating in cold weather. Is the cold really that bad for a foam core? And if so, is it so bad that I should avoid getting one all together? Thanks for the help, peace!

Lotsa riders out here in the land of COSS ride foamies with no trouble. While Colorado winters aren't as hideous as elsewhere, it can definitely get but-reemin' cold out here, and I don't know of any foamcore breakage issues relative to the weather. I have 3 foam decks (including 2 wefunks) -- no probs. I have heard of them warping by being left in too hot of a car, but that's not a cold thing

I have an old Z-Flex Jay Adams that's almost 30 years old and while it's pretty much a tank it stays out in my barn and has for a long time. It's not as high tech as some of these newer boards but it is foam and glass. Nary a crack.

surf boards dont really get damaged from the cold or cold water. so I dont see what the cold could do. I mean yea, it will weaken it slightly but it doesnt seem like enough to break it,

None of the strength comes from the foam core...that is merely there to take up space and provide something to lay the glass around. The strength comes from the resin/epoxy-saturated fiberglass.

thanks a lot... Its not like the only thing that a foam core board and a surf board have in common os the foam... they both are glassed and depending on the board construction it could be almost exactly like a surfboard with wrapped and rolled rails. Wefunks however are a cap construction so they have a thin ash veneer on the top and board is made from a cut from a sheet, not shaped around the foam. and you cant say none of the stregnth is in the foam... people have experimented in it on here before, but a board that is hollow just wont be as strong and as ruggid (the doam will flex instead of the whole thing cracking), some of the foams used today are actually pretty strong, but the foam shouldnt be used for its stregnth

sorry rant... i know there are differences, but I was just trying to gice an example that someone who didnt know composites could get.

Werd, thanks a lot everyone. I've been looking at the Roe slingblade 32" for awhile, probably set it up with a perscion tracker in the front and a airflow in the rear. I hope it doesn't fall to the same fate as my buddy's!
