    Default First (attempted) Slalom Setup

So I just ordered my parts to set up a GS/Hybrid skate, but I think i completely botched it:
    PPS Mitchell X
    5.0 bennetts
    abec 11 sicksicks (78a)
    oust moc9 bearings

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but im starting to realize that my trucks will be too wide? I wanted to get some splits or something clazzzzzzy but i lack sufficient funds. i also thought about some trackers but yeah...

    any suggestions?

    106mm rt-s/x trackers probably would've been a better bet.

Yea, I concur with my candadian brother from another yak. Trackers.

Also, a note on the moc 9 airs, they are OKAY for general longboarding, but I always found that they loose their speed quickly. I personally would have gone with the 7's, or a different bearing all together like a Bones Swiss. That's just me, what ever works for you though is whatever works.

yeah, those bennets are going to be a bit wide.. and you'll rely purely on wedging to get the front turning more than the rear.. with rts/x you can run the rear nearly flat, and just wedge up the nose...

Contact where you ordered the parts from and see if they will exchange the parts you don't want for ones you do before they ship. Usually it takes about a day between when you order to when the stuff gets in route. And replacing those Bennetts with some Trackers will leave you some jingle for some extra bushings.

thanks for the help you guys. i got a pretty good deal on the bennett's ($33/pair) so i might be able to just pick up a pair of trackers anyways.

what will this setup act like though? will it be ridable and just not quick enough for slalom?

unfortunately i cant return the bearings, but oh well, worth a try.

Wider trucks are fine for GS.

Richy Carasco won the GS at DHB on Oust Moc 9s. Did not lose any speed. Trackers for sure, with Khiro or Bones white bushings in the front. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws. Yall come on down to the Sizzler.

    Senor
See the Mile High Roller threads. We have a group of us who ride garages and practice/race slalom. Also there is plenty of info to be had here in Denver/Boulder. It is the home of COSS racing. There are more slalom trophy winners here than any other area. Where did you buy your board? All Board Sports? If you did..go back there and have Jason "Racer X" sign your board. He works there and is the current World Slalom champ.

The oust 9 are a great bearing...Just keep them clean and lubed
I ride them as well as Nitro and Rockin Rons...I have completely abandoned the Swiss...but when they come out with Labrynth 6balls I will try them again
    stop typing...go skate a Pavel

i ordered it direct from PPS. i had not clue mitchell lived in colorado until i saw some of the forums over at slalomskateboarder.com. i cant wait to hit up coors tech with you guys, being that i go to mines and have lookout mountain road in my backyard. that stuff is amazing.

i usually ride swiss but was wanting to try something new. if i chose to get some new bearings itl prolly be some rocketceramics, but who knows.

again, thanks for all the imput.

Save your gas money for an occasional trip to Greeley..though I have not been yet, Wax and some of the Hawaii'n Skate Mafia have a UNC skate group/races too!

There are pics of them in the slalom thread.

youl love that board mate, i bought it recently and have it set up with 106mm trackers and 70mm lemon lime combo zigs and its a beast. not the greatest of ts, but can be done, but its awesome for a larger hybrid course. the extra wide deck gives excellent leverage and is very comfortable

You might be able to get away with a 106 RTX in front, and the 5" bennett in the back. Just wedge the hell out of the Bennett, and put some soft bushings in the front, and you will have yourself a great setup.
