Re: Can I Use This Deck For Slalom?
you could run some rather recreational tight slalom with rts/x pair on that board, but its honestly on the short side.
the flashies are softer than you need, and still wont be as grippy as say an 80a zigzag or hotspot.
for that matter... just wedge the hell out of your front truck & give it a shot with that.

Re: Can I Use This Deck For Slalom?
you can do slalom with any board. generally the biggest boardyou can get through the course will be the fastest. on a 20 inch board you could probably do 4ft cones
hey yo son that's my name whats the word?

Re: Can I Use This Deck For Slalom?
That's the spirit dude just make sure you got some trackers and give it a try...
A funny story from one of the NE outlaws we had a couple years ago. These two kids decide to start slaloming, one kid goes out and buys a brand new foamcore PPS, offset trucks ABEC expensive bearings, you name it. He told his friend about the contest he was going to so the other one cuts his own little slalom deck, not more 24'' long. He tosses on some trackers and a set of used avalons.
Which one of them did better at the race?
The guy with his own cutout deck beat the guy on a foam Pistol.
My number one recomendation to beginners is not to spend a lot of cash. Just get something that turns and try the sport out, then learn something about it, THEN go get yourself the right equipment.

Re: Can I Use This Deck For Slalom?
a few more questions:
- would this setup be cruise/carve-able?
- what size RTS/X's should I use?
- would you recommend the khiro rail wedge kit? if not, how many wedges should i go for in order to prevent wheel bite, and increase turnability?

carving has a very different feeling with a slalom type board, since you lean it so little to turn a lot.
if your goal is going to be true slalom, go as narrow as you can. personally i run recreational slalom on my bruce logan w/ rts/x and i think 139 size. i've got split duro hotspots on there, and its also my campus ride.
rail wedge kit is nice, i use it.
if not, i'd go for double khiro wedges in the front, and run the rts either flat with riser or with 1 wedge+ riser in the negative direction.

- Sure, why not.
-106mm
-If you want, you can pick up the wedge kit, it will help with finer tuning.
Try wedging the front/dewedging the back by 10 degrees at first, then figure out what you want from there. You'll probably want the front wedged more, maybe 20*+.

Re: Can I Use This Deck For Slalom?
thanks for all the help everyone! one more question: will the stiffness of the deck prevent me from pumping effectively? i read somewhere you need flex to pump... how about the durometer of the wheels?

no way, i find my stiff deck to ues all of my energy, as opposed to how my flexy deck absorbs all of my energy in flex

Re: Can I Use This Deck For Slalom?
on second thought, i've realized that this thing is ugly as sin. and is kinda uncomfortable to ride...
so could would either of these dogtown's work? (how are they on quality? haven't heard much about the company):

i'm specifically trying to order from Purple Skunk (http://www.purpleskunk.com) since they're pretty close to me and offer free shipping. so if you know of any decks they sell that will work even better that'd be great too.

You could always cut yourself out another plank...only larger. It's important when learning especially, that you can get your feet in a good stance, going as short as your present deck is..cramps your style, and you'll never get the freedom you need to master your stance/style. Why would Purple Skunk be your choice because they are close...remember? "Free shipping"
Check out ChiXIiLL
Great boards...great price

Re: Can I Use This Deck For Slalom?
...or, for about half the cost of one of those Dogtowns, you could buy a sheet of baltic birch, and cut out a couple of decks:

And if you aren't up to building a deck...
The Dogtown's will work (you're kidding when you say you have't heard much about the company, right?), but if you are spending that much ($60) go with one of the Axes from Sk8Kings.com. For $75 you get a killer deck with grip, wedges and hardware. Just bolt on your trucks the way it's set up, and go! That's at least an extra $15 you'd spend anyway, gripping and mounting the Dogtown. The Axes were originally designed to help beginners with proper foot placement, but they have since proven to be a killer deck for anyone.

looks like i may go with an Axe. how many wedges does it come with? i'm probably going to be using some 70mm wheels on it, so should i order some more wedges? and how long is the mounting hardware?

Re: Can I Use This Deck For Slalom?
They'll take care of getting you all you'll need! R & M take care of their customers..As well as Chris F and Chris N @ chixill ..either of those folks will hook you up
sk8kings may have more inventory re: bushings etc.. email them and let 'em know what you weigh/what your set up is gonna be etc.. then wait for the package
