Cone spacing is still not standard, they waffle between:

    1. 6 foot centers
    2. cone spacing can vary (basically a trade off, shaving speed on tighter cones or adding more distance to travel with more open course)

Cone penalties are still up in the air, the two sides:

    1. any cone displaced DQ's the run
    2. cones hit are 0.10 second penalty

The things that seem agreed upon are:

    1. slope of hill is entirely up to how much speed you can handle and still process the cones.
    2. timing strips are on the first and last cones (there's no timed start or run out)

Personally, I think the "100 cone record" should follow as much a standard as possible, so my vote would be: 6-foot centers and any cone displaced DQ's the run. But there's a lot of well-versed argument against the 'clean' run (nearly impossible to do, makes the event slower and more boring, etc) -- this is discussed at length on ISSA.

Looks like Guiness counts a tenthe for each knocked cone.
    At least in this video:

Then again, they don't sanction races.

Don't forget ISSA Regulation # 6347 that inorder to do the 100 cone challenge you need to put your hair in pony tail.

I am fascinated that he placed the cones at:

    first 25 at 155cm
    middle 50 at 160cm
and the last 25 at 165-168cm

Roughly 527 ft from first to last cone. By my 3rd grade math thats just over 4 cones per second. There are but a handful of pro's doing that now. (With just a start ramp, no pushing to the first cone.)

G, You're a little off. 100/19.2 is 5.203 cones per second. I'll bet anyone $20 that there will be a new world record for the 100 cone challenge by 8:00pm tomorrow night assuming the weather holds...

I was using Marcus Seyforth's run/effort times and cone spacing. (old) I should have posted my reference point.

here is better info: it was set at 18.76 with 5 cones = 19.22

Sorry Zak. Had Martin Sweeney and Marcus mixed up.

The cone spacing Marcus gave me is correct.

this was closer to an 'official' course Dong / Roe did a couple years ago at the same hill, even more of a trip to run it dual

I think the 100 cone spacing is critical if you want to go sub-19 in 100. We didn't really set George's course all that well. After a couple of warm ups we shortened up the bottom half of the course (they were at 8'-9' on this hill) and we took out 22% of the course length and something like 2 seconds. There were still some slack cones in the course, and I think we can find another second in there (for George I mean, not for me).

Every hill is going to require it's own cone spacing to maximize Cones Per Second without it being a popcorn machine. There is no relevant defintion of Tight Slalom cone spacing, only CPS. Bicknel is a good example I suppose. 6' cone spacing and it's a blur. 6' cone spacing on the Trocedero feels like GS. You've got to work the hill and rider to find the right spacing to max out your CPS. I suspect some patterns of spacing and hill inclination will begin to surface as new records are set (e.g. 575' @ 6%). I think we'll see a sub 19 record before the end of this season.

Last week a cop radar'd George @ 27mph through a GS course he set up. This hill going straight through cones (100 cone challenge) looks effin' crazy!

I have a mellower hill that George and Martin have seen with a hill run out. Maybe try the challenge at different spots for optimal CPS?

wheres the vids of Jason or Cbark running that course?
or wait, was this another secret session of the boulder/denver crews?
it would be cool if everyone was invited to take a crack at it under the same conditions...

Jason was there earlier that day, but had prior obligations and had to leave. We called Cbark, but he didn't answer. We didn't plan a record break attempt, we really just wanted to see what 100 cones looked like.

Just by way of information Gary, Martin Sweeney's original record was done at Brands Hatch racetrack with ALL CONES AT 6ft and clean, then he repeated the feat at 5ft spacing also clean (he was after all king of 4ft flat and 5ft offset at the time).I did once see the whole vid showing both runs but don't have a link for the 5ft run. He rode an inverted trimmed G&S Fibreflex Kicktail, Midtracks and Hyper Stradas and posted 21.7sec at 6ft. I think they took the 6ft as the record as that was considered standard spacing at the time...what we we be doing now if it was 5ft centre to centre for every cone!
Sounds like a great run by George, would love to see him, Marcus and Dong go at it!

    Martin,
Any idea what Sweeny is doing now? I never heard of the guy until this video popped up. We're getting approval to run a real race on that hill now. Maybe you can come see it for yourself. I think if you through Pirnack, Barker, Dong, and Maysey at such a course, along with George, you might end up with 5 new records. My back hurts just watching it.
