pumping a longer/shorter board?
okay so i got this weird sorta problem. my 2 pumping setups i got, one's a 48" cruiser and the other is a 29" homebuilt slaler (the 48 has a little bit of flex, the 29 has none at all). the 48" has randals; wedged front and rear; bones hardcore blues up front and yellows out back; and soft blank wheels. the 29" has tracker rts/x; wedged 5* front, -5* rear; abec11 75a bottom bushing and bones hardcore blue top up front, khiro yellow barrels out back; and lime zigs 66mm.
now onto my problem: i find it a LOT easier to get the most out of my pump with the 48" board. i can pump my 29" no prob, but it tires me out faster and i can't go as quickly. also, i noticed that when i pump my 48", my stomach muscles start to get tired, but when i pump my 29" my leg muscles get tired faster.
i do have a couple theories...one is that the flex of the 48" pushes into the pump, supplementing my effort. also, the 48" is 10" wide where my feet go, and the 29" is narrower...so i'm thinking with the 29, i'm not getting 100% worth of my effort maybe. finally, i noticed that i can slide the zigs out if i push hard enough on my 29, so my theory for that is that 100% of my effort isn't getting put into the road.
whew, long post.
yes, an uber-grippy, square-lipped slalom wheel IS the best for sliding

Re: pumping a longer/shorter board?
what kind of pumping do you want to do -- more distance? if so then you'll definately like a longer wheelbase with your slalom trucks. guess a lot depends if you want to keep one setup for actual courses or not?
also keeping in mind beyond a certain length, using narrow trucks might get kinda wonky (the balance between your hangar width and long wheelbase)
i've always preferred big WB as long as you're pumping any kind of duration. the little boards pump fast and efficiently, but its more of a sprint+coast+sprint+coast kinda thing. if you want to get into some big, fast pumps-- go with the bigger longer deck!

Is it possible that you are pumping wrong(I know, I'm one to talk) or you could kinda cross train yourself by wakin up and do squats.
BTW your stuff will be sent out tomorrow.(If I can remember)

Re: pumping a longer/shorter board?
yeah the same happens to me, my legs get tired faster when pumping on my loaded fish than the vanny. but the fish is prob a better sprint pumper. So i would use the longer wheelbase of the vanny to do LDP, but for like short stuff i would use the fish.
