So I'm trying to do a little slalom contest here in Louisville. Trying to stir up some intrest in slalom in the Louisville area. It won't be big. It won't be fancy. Here's what we have so far.
Race is Sunday June 1, 2008.
Practice starts at 10am. Race starts at 11am.
Entry is $10 cash the day of the race.
All entry fees go into a pot and will be split amoungst the top three finishers.
HELMETS REQUIRED BY ALL SKATERS.
This being an outlaw race it could get shut down at anytime. As long as everyone gets a run in it's a done deal. If it gets shut down before that entry fees will be returned. We are looking at doing this in the single lane jam format.
I have a few hills selected for this race. I am watching the hills to see which one we will have the best chance of racing on that day. The race hill will be announced closer to the day of the race. Don't want to jinx it.
All skaters are asked to bring along any extra boards to loan out to anyone that wishes to try slalom that day. Not a requirement but it would be nice. The main idea behind this is to spread the slalom stoke around Louisville. .....and I like skate with people.
The course will depend on the hill that we get to race on. Right now the favored hill I want to use would be set up with a nice hybrid course. Course comes in just over 40 cones. Pray to the skate gods we get this hill.
As the event gets more and more finalized I'll update it here on this post.
Wish me luck. I need it.

OK we have had a few scares on hill locations for this one.
the original hill looks to be back on track after some new home construction had it messed up. An hour of sweeping and cleaning and it should be as good as new.
I have also come up with like 4 back up hills. This things going down one way or another.
fun fun fun
Bring on June 1.

Location is finalized.
The race will be held at Long Run Park. That is way on the East End of Louisville past Middletown. The pavement is nice a smooth. There is a little traffic through the park but over all it's pretty quiet. It should be fun. The other side is real fast and great for a little downhill run.
A near by hill has been chosen as a back up if things go wrong.

If you show up and we aren't there at race time (11 am) keep on driving and check the reserve hill.
Go out the back entrance of Long Run park. Turn right on Long Run rd.
On your right a mile or so down the road is Bridgemore.
Turn right on Bridgemore. Turn left to park. The race hill is on the right.
The course will be on the hill after the circle/turn.
Depending on the wind this hill can be run in either direction. I ran it today. The head wind was killing me. But when I ran it the other direction it worked great. So we have options.

I'm stoked. Got all my tires dialed in to the precise air pressure. Set up one mountainboard as a speed board (50 psi) with slightly tighter shocks. Even decided to bring the RTR 2-wheel.
Now all I have to do is load the quiver into my car tonight and get up no later than 5:30 am CDT and I'm set.
Edit: Things were looking pretty dicey when my son totaled his mother's car in Paducah last night at 1:00 am (1:30 am to 9:00 am at the ER). He got tossed around pretty good but is still in one piece.
The contest went off with no problems today.
We only had five racers but the racing was tight and we really pushed each other. That hill is fast and smooth. Fresh smooth pavement. Everyone was stoked on that.
Evan Tolley laid down the time to beat and it was hard to overcome. Dave H and myself tried all day to beat Evan's best time. Somewhere in the last fifteen minutes I was able to take him down. I felt guilty for winning my own race but Evan and Dave made me work for it. Times are as follows.
Jeremy Coffman 12.086
Evan Tolley 12.179
Dave Harris 12.311
Bobby Thomas 13.103
David Tolley 13.194
After the race was over we did a little downhill before heading over to Mark's Feedstore for some BBQ and some fried corn. The best thing for me was listening to Bobby T and Bluegrass Surfer telling surf stories while we ate. Just imagine driving to Kentucky to listen to surf stories. Awesome. I loved it. After lunch me and the West Virginians headed over to the skate park for a little session. Very fun as well.
Much thanks to the guys at Adrenaline Zone for their support and stoke on slalom and downhill in Louisville.

Good times. Nice to drop out of cyber-reality and meet and speak with living, breathing beings in real time. Great meeting and riding with a small group and telling tall tales. These little Convergences are good fun.
We need to have some Autumn rallies this year on cool afternoons/evenings.
So I have been riding on these hills some more and the thought keeps passing thru my head. I'd like to try and do another contest next year in the same locations only BIGGER.
Who would be into coming to a contest in Louisville, KY in say June of next year? Just throwing it out there for some feed back.
I would like to do a two day event. Tight, Hybrid, Giant and maybe a dual GS type race if I can. It's only a two lane road but I think we could have some fun running it head to head. There are a few pictures already posted on this thread of one of the hills. The pavement is butter smooth and fast.
Like I said. Just throwing it out there to see who might be down.
