so basically, i have a couple boards for freeride/communter (read: dervish and KS), a speed board comin in tomorrow (evo, crails, flys), and will prolly be gettin a slide deck pretty soon. the only board i am missin i thought was a mini, i don't particularly like them, but think a really turny/pumpy setup would be fun. so since i don't like minis much, that leaves slalom.
what is so fun bout slalom style riding, and why should i try it? just lookin for a few major selling points to see if it justifies a new board (new=used),i don't have any friend's with a slalom board, so i'd have to buy a used one to try prolly.

-S9 off the wall, deck only as of now. hoping for indy 169s, zig zags, and reds soon.
-Evo deck, somewhere in the mail
-dervish - sold
-tactis white terror - blue crails - white jimz bushings - 78mm blast waves - bones swiss

wait... shouldnt you figure this out on your own? isnt that half the fun? dont get me wrong, its nice to be pointed in the right direction but this something you have to decide for yourself. buy a cheap pumping setup and go from there, if it doesnt work out turn around and sell it on here or to a friend. obviously there is some hidden interest otherwise you wouldnt have made this thread. case in point, just go buy a setup and screw around on it until you're hooked or not.
keep your eyes peeled for a used one on sf or just spend some cash and set one up new from sk8kings. they're cheap and have great customer service.
eh..., ya, i know, i'd just like to here what everyone likes so much bout it.
and yes you're right, i've done this w/ all the stuff i've bought and i got it eventually. meaning if i'm asking, i'll get one. your answers just influence how far up on my priority list it'll be. so..., what is so special bout slalom?

I just started and am really liking it. Nothing else really feels anything close to how slalom boards perform. Going 20mph while weaving tiny gaps in cones is really fun. Nothing even comes close to pumping like slalom set ups do. I was in the same boat as you were and don't regret buying the deck at all, and find myself using it a lot. PM me if you want some links for some good set ups.
Good slolom riders make great spead boarders... But not always the other way around... Personally I like GS it is the most difficult and most advanced event the sport has to offer
30-45mph through the turns and around the cones on an insanly wedged deck! Bring your MOJO... YEAH BABY YEAH!
Seems like every time I really eat it these days is doing something insane on my 31" TS deck not my speedboard...
And I am WAYYY to old and fat for that #@%$...

You've really got to try it to understand. I could tell you all the reasons I like it but it just doesn't really convey the whole reason why it's so great. I'd say just look for the nearest contest or organized ride and check it out for yourself. Everyone there most likely will be happy to see you and let you try it out.
Some of the high points to slalom is the people and the community. I also like to say that slalom gives purpose to two of the things I like most about skateboarding; going fast and turning. If you like downhill and carving you'll probably enjoy slalom.

Hey Sniffleless... Is that HAL's EYE on your profile? You know what HAL stands for don't you... What are the next leters in the alphabet to each letter in HAL... IBM
lol, well mark i just threw bout 140-150 for some flys, wheels, crails, and spacers, so i'll be givin this decision another week or two. i was thinkin heavily bout gettin a slider next, but my buddy has one of those, none of my friend's have a slalom setup. i'll more than likely be throwin ya some more cash, or pickup one of the tactis boards i keep eye balling.
