I'm organizing a Slalom Racing Clinic here in Antrim, NH. Antrim is home of the CanAm Race in the fall, it's in SW NH, about an hour from Manchester, or 45 minutes to Keene, Concord, and Nashua.
My main goal is to get some local interest in the sport, though "local" I'll leave to your interpretation. I'm really not sure how big or small this may be, but if you are interested, please let me know, I'm counting heads and need signed reg. forms.
Experienced racers will be conducting the clinic.
We have the race course, aka Summer Street, closed for the day. Starting low and slow, all levels are encouraged to try. We'll have some gear available too, so those who don't have the right boards can try this the right way.
Some details are:
Sat, 7/26, rain date Sunday
10AM Start, I envision running 'til 5 or 6
It's Free, donations to Antrim Friends of Rec are welcome.
It's sponsored by the Antrim Parks & Rec Dept, and therefore:
Registration is required (as in adult signature/release) and,
Helmets are Mandatory - but of course!
I'm sure there's more I ought to put in here, but wanted to get this posted - and it's too nice a day to sit here crunching words. I'll put some details in as I think of them.
Message me, or email teencenter at tds o net for info.

Damn! I'm going to be at munns, but I would've loved to come to this. I'm from brattleboro, vt, which is pretty much the most new hampshire town in VT, so it wouldnt be too bad of a drive.
If you guys have any more events, let me know, i'd love to come.

I would reccommend you add Knee pads, elbow pads and maybe even wrist guards as well.
A few falls can ruin more then a good day for a few!
Good Luck and we really hope to see you in September!!!!!!
Thanks for the tip (and luck!), I will fully recommend all the pads, loudly and repeatedly. I have several sets of dept. store variety, hoping more are available on D day.
Powers That Be say "they" (the doctors that the reckless will pay for themselves?) can repair just about everything but one's brain function. So "Helmets absolutely required." Thus far, I'm repeating that, and am prepared to further limit participants who don't seem to "get it" as we go.
Based on the talent pool I'm seeing, I think we'll have enough full sets to satisfy anyone who dares take the "big" course on.

I'll be there helping out with instruction. This is a really unique opportunity to skate on the Antrim hill all day long and work on technique. I can't wait!

Thanks so much for doing this Karl.
I'm very excited to try this out myself, with proper gear and guidance.
I skated with a few downhill carver/slider guys today, they are very interested, and not at all afraid of hitting that hill on their Loadeds. They should be great at this.
True noobs, well, still not sure how many to expect. I'll be out trying the diplomacy thing with the skatepark crew this week, if a few of them sign on, I'll be really psyched.

Hey, I know you! I was suspicious, until I checked my email, and now I know for sure.
I'll be checking out the site, I like the idea.
Hopefully I'll get out this week, give me a hollar if you're going!

The latest:
I just got back from finally rolling down Summer Street. I hadn't done it yet because, well, it's prohibited. Except for certain exceptions...
Yeah, I know... so what?
Well, as an "officer of the town" and knowing full well that it is, it wouldn't look very good if I got carted off that hill in cuffs (would never happen, really) or on a stretcher (what could possibly go wrong?). I could lose my $0 per year P&R appointment, and THEN what would I do? Huh?
So I haven't.
This was scientific research though. Glad I finally did it. My buddy Ryan has done it many times, and bombed it again tonight on his homemade board. More research, you know.
NICE HILL.
The low end is very mellow, probably that way even with a ramp. Couldn't go fast enough to get scared from the Main St end. Perfect starter hill.
The other side is pretty fast, I took it from about where the dual races started with a few big pushes. I carved hard at the top to control speed, wiggled and had fun after the steep part.
We're going to have fun on the 26th!
Also, I talked with our police commander, asked him for the roadside speed trailer. He thought it would not be a problem to put it on Summer for the clinic, we agreed it would be good for community relations, and why not?
Re: Slalom Clinic in Antrim NH on Saturday July 26
I was wondering if we could perhaps incorporate a lesson in sliding into this awesome event??? I think it would be good to know...I don't know how to and I've heard from people that its the most efficient way to stop besides the good ole foot break and of course bailing out!

Some of the participants are definitely into this, and I'm interested too. I told them to bring their boards and try the hill for fun.
Got sliding gloves? You'll want 'em. I tried it with driving gloves, which was better than nothing, but they grip and yank when you set them down, sore muscles!
Not sure it's really done on these slalom setups, but maybe... what if a small brown chihuahua or a toddler eating an animal cracker wanders into the street?
I'm pretty sure there will be time and space for some other stuff, and I may even try to get some of the apprehensive freestylers to... well... try the popsicle stick long jump or drag race or something. We'll see.
Not making promises, I'll default to our instructors and the flow to see what else looks possible.
