Default Southern Fried Cone Fest Summary and Results- Ashland,KY

There's a TON of stuff to say about this year's race, but it was a HUGE success. We had 20 racers and MANY first timers, some even for first time riding a freakin' slalom board!! It was awesome!! HUGE thanks go to my DHB bros Mark Nix and crew for building our start ramps and hauling them from NC to KY, arriving at 5:00am, then being on the hill to help us set up everything at 7:00. Awesome!!

OK- Podiums For Saturday's Race:
A-Class
1st- Marcos
2nd- Goad
3rd- Nix

B-Class
1st- Chad Hegerty (Stoked to see him take it since he eliminated me in te first round- )
2nd- Ben Barkey
3rd- Jeremy Coffman

C-Class
1st- Kyle Smith (more on him in a bit!!)
2nd- Jason Rhoton
3rd- Darren Hodges

About Kyle, this kid freakin' rips!!! He stumbled on a TS session a couple weeks ago, came to the race, and freakin' won on a borrowed board!!! He and his brother Cory both took the slams of the day, got up and ripped it hard like nothing happened. They have the bug BIG and rip HARD!!! I want to send crazy props to Jeff Goad, David Harris and Dave and Evan Tolley. They all came together to donate the Limitless Stoke Award to Kyle and Corey Smith. Jeff gave the deck he skated this weekend while Dave, Dave and Evan donated components to hook these two kids up with their first slalom board!! Look for these to at bigger races! They'll be flying soon!!! They have the DHB STOKE!!!!

HUGE thanks to all the racers and those who helped out by setiing up, tearing down, announcing and all that "behind the scenes" stuff, especially the first timers (Stephanie Harris, Hunter, Kyle, Jacob, and Corey) and those who traveled a LONG way to race (Jeremy from across the state, Marcos repping the Texas Outlaws, Darren and Nix from Sk8sville, Burt from MN, and Goad & Jon from St. Louis Dagger-town).

Also, I have to send out HUGE stoke to the sponsors who really helped us out HUGE this year: Khiro, Sk8Kings, Seismic, Marc's Board Shop, Surf-N-Sun Shades, Poage Landing Days Festival Committee and Chic-Fil-A all of whom hooked us up A FREAKIN' LOT!!!

Check out Annual Poage Landing Days event celebrates Ashland's heritage - The Herald Dispatch for an artcle and photos.

Finally got my Internet and phone back tonight. I would like to Thank Lenny in Ashland for putting on such a cool and laid back event! I got to meet and new friends and renew my ties with old ones. We had a lot of 1st timers as well as more seasoned racer attending and atmosphere was more like a hang out and skate session, than a contest. Lenny set a great course on Saturday that was challenging for new racers but was still good for the more experienced of us. Sunday's GS was set on a great hill with speeds somewhere in the 30's with a combo of great stretching sweepers and techy section in the middle and the bottom. Congrats to the Daggers for Sweeping both 1st (Seeger) and 2nd (Goad) om Sunday.Special to Jeremy from Louisville for picking me up at the airport and being my chauffeur the whole weekend. I had a great time, can't wait for the next one! Here are a few choice shots from the event.

Sounds like Antrim was a blast I agree with Jeremy it is a shame that both races are on the same weekend. congratulations to all the races who attended.

Wow that brown board that dude is holding up in the group shot sure looks nice.

It sure was a great weekend. I had a real fun time skating and hanging out. I got me a nice set of Speed Vents (that I skated in the GS on Saturday), some needed bushings, a nice pair of sunglasses and fancy red t-shirt, some nice DC shoes and a tasty Chic-fil-a sandwich with sweet tea to wash it down. But best of all I got to skate some fun hills with some great guys. Can't wait til next year. OH and a real nice trophy/plaque for the wall.
