Sorry to hop on the tangent train, but I've got a question:

How large is/are the hill(s?) used? Considering that 1) I'm from one of the flattest spots on earth, and 2) I'm completely new to slalom; I'm a little worried about my ability to handle the course. Any descriptions, photo links, helpful tips, area morticians' phone numbers, etc. will be greatly appreciated.

The GS hill is kinda fast
this vid is of PMC and I
testing it for speed last year

on a slalom board the speeds are
upper 20s to low 30s mph

    HS/TS hill

    Nothing to worry about

    Angry Re: 2009 Texas Sizzler

Thank You Again this year to Pressure Drop and FullBag skates for stepping up in the longboard division. Last year most of the DownHill skaters wondered why I did not receive any schwag from the big longboard companies. I own a longboard or two from these big companies. Sorry bros. The longboard/speedboard companies really do not give a damm about our event. Or for DownHill in Texas for that matter. And yes I did ask them for schwag but nada. Got the emails to prove it. So please try not to cram the pics of this years DownHill contest with your rigs. Because those companies do not care about DownHill in Texas. SHAME ON YOU. Thanks Shaun and Mig. What time you planning that on Friday? Anyone hitting the RR bowl Friday evening? Anyone bringing their wife/girlfriend (whichever applies ) ? I'll be bringing my wife Babs. She's never actually seen me slalom, so this should be interesting...she gets nervous enough when I skate the bowls.

Thanks for the info and video links Borto! The fastest I've gone that was confirmed by GPS was 27 or so, though I did bomb a hill cited at 35mph by the locals. I guess it's worth a try but I'm still a little nervous because I'm not sure I have the proper equipment for the job (no elbow pads/leathers/fullface). I'll probably just bring everything I have and decide what to do once I get there, based on my inclinations and the advice of those better than me.

I have an extra set of elbow pads that you can use, they are used but in good condition.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cold beer in one hand - longboard in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, Yeaa Haaa What A Ride!!!

I'm hoping to hit Round Rock sometime Friday, possibly with "Lou from Longview" and Chad H. from Ohio. I was thinking afternoon, but maybe evening would work. Does RR have lights?

Looks like we might have a decent crew to skate the park. I have been looking at the photos on Grindline and am stoked to skate that park.

Barnett, my wife will be flying in on Friday afternoon. She has only seen me skate a few times. Depending on when we hit the park she may not make it to the park but it all depends on when we go.

Yeh...if I go skate RR, I doubt my wife will go. I think she plans to hang out with a friend of hers. Saturday and Sunday she'll be at the race, though. Maybe our wives can chat...it'll take the edge off her nerves.

So...any Austin guys gonna skate the bowl, Friday? I figure a light session shouldn't be a problem...maybe it'll even help loosen me up for Saturday.

    this is gonna be fun!

I doubt my wife will want to go to the park. I am sure she will opt for a run instead which is fine. Depending on when we go she may not even be in Texas yet. That park just looks like a blast. I need to make sure I dont blow out my legs for the rest of the weekend. I finally got out to skate last weekend since the DHB halloween jam and my legs felt it. I tried to skate the park the next day and had nothing left.

I hear ya...I can't have a heavy session, then turn around and do it again the next day and be anywhere near 100%. I'll be taking it easy on Friday. I've been trying to get up to RR for months now...just can't seem to make it. I figure maybe just some carving and slashing...and try to keep the time down to a minimum. Keep an eye for me...I wear a Silver FlyAway helmet and ride wide decks.
