    Default Ace Trucks

Does anyone have an opinion on the Ace trucks (00) for a front slalom truck?

This is a reprise of something I originally posted over at NCDSA:

I think the Ace 00 truck is a great front slalom truck. The 00 is very similar to the beloved Indy 101/9 in geometry, although Ace seems to have much higher quality control than Indy. The castings are near perfect. The pivot is as smooth and nice as I've ever seen. The hanger ends even appear to be faced (I re-face mine anyway).

One difference worth noting is that Ace has a much larger hole in the hanger for the kingpin. It makes for a very loose and turny truck but also means that you have to have bushings that fit the bushing seat exactly to avoid slop. I use the old Geezer-X trick of lathing a lip in each bushing to extend down into the kingpin hole, filling the gap between the kingpin and the hanger and removing slop. You need to start with a tall and soft bushing to do it, like a Stim or a bushings cut from a wheel with a hole saw. It's a tweak that's well worth the effort.

The Ace axles are also closer to 8mm (OD) than the typical cast/mass-market truck.

I have used an Ace00 hanger on my HS board for a wider stance when needed, better quality than an Indy for sure, there's somone on the fish that does a sperical conversion to the Ace00 that looks pretty slick

I tried out a set my friend had ordered because he heard a lot of hype about them. All I can say is THEY TURN, but unfortunately they are prone to bent hangers. They are a different feel than the new gen indy's (what are we on stage 10 now?) I believe these are the stage 6 or stage 3 design, info for that should be lurking somewhere in google. I used them for pool skating. The castings are very nice indeed!

Cool company! Hard to get a hold of though.

Aces are based on the Stage 3 Indy geometry.
Aren't they new school bolt pattern only? If so you'll have to redrill the baseplates.
They work great as a front truck from what I hear.

It's still holding up, and I really like it. It hasn't been ridden lately due to the winter season, but I put it on my TS board at the end of summer last year, and the GOG got put in the "box o parts", and is still there.

They are new-school bolt pattern only, but there IS enough room to drill them old-school, as you can see in the photo above...
