Hey everyone in the slalom world:
First off slalom kicks ass and I'm so glad that I'm getting into it.
That being said, because I only got into it at the end of last summer I haven't had the chance yet to go to any real slalom events. (Plans to go to wiggle wars, buckeye open, outlaw in chicago, and any others that pop up in the midwest) And thus I have zero experience with what actually goes into these events and what works and what doesn't.
Us michiganders are in the process of planning an Outlaw type event/weekend (Madness in the Mitten) sometime this spring. Event details are in the midwest section, BUT we are trying to plan a slalom event for the sunday after the outlaw.
What i need to know is what does it take to make a slalom event worthwhile for people to travel? How big of a hill does it need to be? How many people/events do we need? Is one lane ok or do we need two? Is laser timing a must or would a strip timer be ok? How big do entry fees need to be? Will we need sponsors to donate big prizes to make anyone interested? Do we need to provide camping/housing/food/off hill events? The slalom scene here is kinda small but we are trying to grow it as much as we can and would really like to make this event legit and attractive to people across the midwest. Any advice you guys could give would be really helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance![]()
