    Default Great Slalom Board

Hey guys, I'm sure there are a bunch of topics on this, but I'm feeling lathargic and not feeling the search function right now. Anyhow, what is the wheel base restriction on GS courses and a typical GS setup?

Basically, for my next board I was considering the Insect Dragonfly but realized that Roe Slalom decks are made by the same guys. So this gave me the idea to purchase a pumping machine of a deck that could also qualify for GS if I ever wanted to enter such a thing. I was looking to set up this board with 130mm hangers in the Tracker or Seismic denomination, or a mixture of each with either Manx or Grippin in an 88/80 split or so.

From Roe I could do with an Unlimited 32" or El Dorado. From Insect, either their GS or Dragonfly.

In the USA, I've never heard of any kind of rule for what kind/size of board one can ride in a slalom race. You can ride a 40" wheelbase board in a tight slalom race, and a 14" wheelbase board in a giant slalom race if you want. People might tell you you're silly, but they won't force to change.

FWIW, I think when the wheelbase gets into the 20" range, you're in the GS realm. Below that, you're talking tight slalom. Some of the GS courses they've been setting are pretty insane this days and a big board isn't a bad idea: though then they'll stick in some close "stinger" cones at the end or something so the board does still need to make tightish cones if called for.

Never seen a restriction on wheelbase, even at the US Championships or Morro... run what works.

So what'd a typical GS setup vs. a typical TS setup?

the roe I like for tight slalom might be a 20" board. the pocket pistol I like for gs is a 36". As far as restrictions go, we held a longboard slalom where from truck holes to truck holes you had to have a certain length- but I don't think there is a rule for most races.
The manx/grippins mix is a good one- I've really been impressed with my manx wheels.

get an axe. more of a ts setup, but its damn sexy.
for manx wheels, i run 80/84, and that seem to work great.
for a gs deck, i'd go for the insect, or that deck thats on the tracker website, the wreckreational cruiser, or something like that.

Just build a board with multiple wheelbases from 20 to like 17" or something and work with that. Ive seen guys run faster than i can fathom on pieces of plywood or a banana board. Wese rides planks and Vlad was riding some crazy banana last time i rode with him so its more of your trucks, wheels and ability.

Vlad was also running some very shoddy russian made trucks that just had a pretty good geometry.

Cool, I am far more impressed with what a guy can do rather than what he has
