crap crap crap. I skated down the causway once with my cousin in my truck behind me, fuch the law.

My first thought is that I only go down there to visit family as I was born in dunedin so I would just throw out the ticket. Let em come get the 88 bucks. thats some bullcrap, the old people need to just be quiet and stay in their condos.

I want to be the leader of a rebellion just as much as the next guy... but it doesn't work like that. Bitching here won't solve ####. Go out and make a petition. I've had some experience in that method. Write letters each day... In order to host a movement, it's more work than it's worth...

I'd just ignore the law and skate anyway. Hell, St. Pete is a nice place to skate. Go there.

mandalay surf shop has a petition running.
im in it.
now im just spreading the word out for this.
i would go to st pete but its illegal too.
iknow, i used to work there, i work in clearwater beach now.
it affects me alot, we have a hearing on wed. afternoon at 6pm at the clwtr beach rec area i believe.

How long has it been illegal? Where is this hearing? I have been going to clearwater beach to skate fairly often, spending money there and just enjoying myself. I only see longboarders near the beach- no popsicles. So the grumpy residents must be targeting US for some reason.

Having traveled the world and served as a prosecutor for 7 years(7th Judcial Circuit of Florida), I cringe when I hear the dogma about how this is a free country and everything.

This is more of a police state than we are willing to admit. Too many activities are out right banned in a Draconian fashion. FInes and penalties for so many innocuous acivities - in the name of public safety and welfare.

The good news is you get more due process here than anywhere else.
The bad news is you will need due process more here than anywhere else.

You are much more likely to get fined, arrested, sued or in trouble for something here than anywhere else I know.

The only Communist countires I have been too are Vietnam and China. I can't picture getting fined or arrested there for skating. You can buy a beer and walk down the street and drink it without getting arrested or threatened with a fine or arrest(unlike here).
I am taking my gbomb illuminati in September to the China so I will back that up emperically.

The time to protest is BEFORE they pass these laws at the city hall meetings/hearings.

Try to not piss off motorists and peds if possible. It just fans the flames and gives the vocal ban-everything types ammunition to present to the city commisioners.

It took my petition 2 years to see results...

If you want to see some major results quick, get the media involved. I'm sure a reporter would like to write a story on it. You'd have to get a bunch of well-mannered longboarders together and just "clog up" the area.

Now, if you did have a big get together, dont cause a ruckus. Keep your composure. I could see how a small riot could backfire that idea and you'd be screwed in the long run.

this is a old post but ive been longboarding all of clearwater beach for a while and around cops well infront they seem not to care if ur crusing along havent had any trouble at all (knock on wood) but as long as ur not grinding anything up u should be straight
