I just found out that Charleston is making it a tradition to shut down king st from traffic the second sunday of every month.....thoughts on this?

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but this would probably make it worse for us. The reason King gets blocked off is because they open it up as a pedestrian mall. People eat outside, walk in the street instead of on the sidewalks, etc. Picture the Farmer's Market in Marion Square, with dogs and little kids running around, but in the middle of King St.

Also, only lower King gets closed off, and the rest of King runs as normal. This would be a bad day to do it.

Truth, it could actually be really cool if we got a time slot during Second Sunday, I didn't think of that. We'd have a built-in audience. We might be able to say something like, "So... since traffic will already be shut down... can we have the street for 30 mins?"

Finding a lot of skaters around, getting alot of interest in this thing- we really need a facebook, and for someone to either get approval or not- but either way this thing has GOT to happen.

@acticanalog- Would you mind if pete and I put some work into getting prizes/ sponsors? This is your baby and we don't want to step on any toes- but also want to help and make sure we have an awesome event. Just lemme know so we can get some balls rolling.

Mr. Analog- I sent you a PM... But I was also wondering if you could edit the info on the Facebook page to not mention anything about the legal status of the event. Thanks bud.

It'll be changed to "legal" as soon as we get sponsors and possible cofc/city approval. Making it legal is my ultimate goal. This is motivation for people to participate so we can show we enough of a crowd that'll do it.

As far as a course goes, does anyone think it would be cool to have more than just a start and a finish? like certain places you have to go to- to make it longer. Cause the longest route i can see it like a 2.5 mile straight shot, but if we fallowed the length of Meeting, but made the course also go wide- like up and down calhoun and broad, it could be a goo distance.

Tell all your friends dude! The only restrictions are no boards that would be ollie-ing obviously cause that's how we'll get in trouble. Otherwise tell everyone you know and have them tell everyone they know. Crowds will come if they know a massive other crowd will be there. This kind of event is by spoken word. If you're stoked on it and tell everyone then it'll spread like some sort of zombie causing infection!
