By the way, I'm in Summerville and Scabus Maximus is in Columbia. If anyone knows a good spot for racing anywhere in SC, let us know. I don't get up towards Sparkle City/Greenville much and don't know what's out there.
I know what's in the Lowcountry: SQUAT. That's why it's called "low." And ever since that video of the guy at Waterfront Park I don't go downtown much anymore either. I haven't been to the Bus Depot since last summer.
I assume you looking for slalom race spots...
I don't slalom so I don't know too much of what you looking for in a hill.
In Columbia if you poke around the rivers (especially the Saluda before it merges with the Broad) they have some pretty good hills, we do slides around there with minimal traffic interference.
In Lexington there are some pretty good hills and lots new subdivisions with only roads laid out if you want no traffic.
The upstate is full of hills your bound to find something up there
Yes, Charleston's Waterfront Park when Officer Shirley sent the guy over the shrubbery.
I lived five years in Columbia off Broad and Bush River Road. I know the territory where the rivers meet. There may be something on the Lexington County side but there ain't jack in Columbia.
What slalomers like is good asphalt, a good 5- or 6% grade, at least 1000 feet and an endless runout. Dead end roads in business parks are like finding the mother lode.
Since those preferences are about next to impossible we take whatever we can find.
Hey, I just moved to Charleston from SLC and I'm hating it. I used to board every day on the hills there, but since moving here...nothing. Anyone have any tips where I could cruise?
The neighborhood between Lexington hospital and Columbia has some good hills (for South Carolina) . When I first got my slide deck we went there and left a lot of skin. There was one pretty good hill I think you slalomers will like I can give specific directions if anyone wants.
And for the guy in Charleston, try going down the sidewalk on that new bridge of yalls...that should be fun.
Has everyone seen Mel Gibson's THE PATRIOT? It's supposed to be loosely based on the Revolutionary War exploits of Gen. Francis Marion.
Anyway, the movie starts with Gibson on his plantation somewhere out in the country. He gets a letter the State Assembly is convening in Charleston. So he loads up the kids in a wagon and heads for downtown.
Cut to a scene of the family riding into Charleston . . . OVER A HILL with the peninsula and all the harbor layed out in a beautiful panorama.
WHAT?
I've lived here since I was five years old and I can tell you the only hill in the Neck area are the viaducts over I-26. It's really a hilarious scene for anyone living here. Maybe there used to be a hill that disappeared in only 200 years of erosion?
I remember when I was a kid The Wonderful World Of Disney did a series about Francis Marion starring Leslie Nielson (yes, of Police Squad.) He and his merry men fight the British . . . surrounded by mountains, rocks and valleys.
Whoever decided to film this movie thought no one could tell the difference between Southern California and the swamps of the Santee and Pee Dee.
