Default Blue Ridge Free Ride 2008

I'm starting this thread to begin discussion on the Blue Ridge Free Ride 2008... When, who, how long, what hills, blah, blah, blah,... Late April has been kicked around a bit. So, what works best for you?

Alright, after getting a little feedback and doing some brainstorming, the idea is melding into a 3 day free ride with the Blue Ridge Parkway as a focal point. The idea would be to travel the Parkway and hit hills that are on it or relatively close to an exit.

Start from Point A the first day, skate all day and work our way to Point B. Camp at Point B overnight and the next day skate and work our way to Point C. Camp overnight and the next day, skate all day. Sessions would be for a couple of runs unless its an epic hill.

Point A would be somewhere near Asheville with Mount Mitchell, 181, and other possible hills on the list. Point B would be somewhere near the VA border. Then its off to Floyd, Blacksburg, Roanoke with many options along the way. Point C would be near Mill Mtn. Then its off to Peaks of Otter and other hills in that area. These are by no means written in stone but merely an illustration of how it would work.

The target dates are still soft with an early May being kicked around. Possibly a 3 day weekend. Here's where some input would be nice...

Bert, let me know if you need any help putting this together. I may not be ready to run the biggest stuff, so I can pitch in on shuttle driving, and camera work when I don't skate.

these things are normally planned weeks if not months in advanced, you can predict how the weather will be, just got to take a chance.

I'll check the Farmer's Almanac for a dry weekend...and don't worry, there will be several weeks advance notice.

I want to go! I'm planning on it. I'm with Mister Surly. If it's too much for me, I'll help film and shuttle. But, of course, I'm working on being good enough.

How is the camping site? Tents and stuff needed? Believe it or not, I've never really been camping, so I don't have any of that stuff.

I'd very strongly like to push for the weekend of May 10 and 11.

Meet up at point A on friday night and/or saturday morning and then move north from there. this sounds like a killer idea and crazy cheap too if we're camping. Shitty ass food and free camping for the win!

I'm in for sure

If and when we get to Blacksburg I've got some stuff that'll knock your socks off
