Hey I have a friend in the Seattle area that is starting to get into Longboarding and has been trying to get me to learn too. I also just found out that another friend of mine here in the area used to Longboard out west as well so I'm going to give it a try. I live in the Roswell/East Cobb area and am looking for some places we can go nearby. We're mostly thinking parking garages at this point to get us going. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, my friend here has a board but I still need to get one. Any recommendations on what kind board I should start with?

You should check out Woody's Halfpipe in the Northeast Atlanta area. Its probably gonna be the best selection of longboarding stuff around here. They have a lot of good stuff. As for what board to get, it depends on how much you want to spend, but I know Woody's has an Earthwing Supercharger that wouldn't be too expensive and most people on the fish seem to love it. I'm no expert on this though. I'd say just go by Woody's and let him help you out. For directions, just google it.
Live in Homepark. Ride around here a bit and also cruise in midtown. Pretty new to it so nothing to crazy.
Yeah, I'm not that good either. I'm just learning how to slide, but I met some kids who are helping me out some. GT's campus has some pretty decent spots for cruising around, you just have to do it at night to avoid cars/people. What are you riding?

Hey man. Good to have you in ATL and starting up. If you are near Roswell, you are near one of the prime cruise spots there is...Big Creek Park in Alpharetta. I have done this ride 4 or 5 times now. 10k of flat concrete through the woods between Mansell and Webb Bridge Road. Gleat place to start on the flats for pumping, pushing, and cruising. Awesome beginner stuff but even the most advanced would have a good afternoon doing the 12 miles there and back. As for a board, harder suggestion. I love the Loaded boards, I have owned the Vanguard and Dervish both in Flex 1 (Big dude, 211lbs 6ft). I settled on the Dervish because of how versatile it is. Check out Welcome to Stoked Skateboards for the best prices and Wooody's if you want to buy locally. Shoot David@stokedskateboards.com an email and tell him that Chadd sent you. He will help you pick and load the perfect board for your first ride.
Do some searches on "atlanta" here on SFL and find the thread with all the hidden spots we know about. Most of mine are Gwinnett/Alpharetta, some are midtown, and some are forsyth. I haven't seen any over your way yet, but be sure to check the county parks for multi-use trails and look through the rules for the park system before you go. Gwinnett is very cool about skateboarders in their parks as long as you aren't being an idiot.
I live in calhoun, but work in the marietta area. I'll be moving to kennesaw soon so I'll need to know where some good cruising or carving spots are at where I can go forever. I got some g bones wheels cause I wanna get into sliding too. But we should get a crew going for the warmer weather.
i live in kennesaw/acworth area off mars hill road. i skate a lot on the brookstone golf course. and other places i find fun.
hey ill be in kennesaw in march! lets skate!

Hey Marco - I am thinking about doing Big Creek with a friend on Sunday. Tyleroo bowed out due to obligations at home. Woody's Grant Park thing is going on Friday night. Not sure, but I might do that. I just don't like being in the middle of town on a Friday night.

Hey Camel, it's not that bad there. When I went, there were a fair amount of people there and the neighborhood its in isn't that bad. I wouldn't stick around after everyone else leaves, but I didn't feel unsafe while I was there. I can't go for the next few weeks because of no ride/being out of town, but I'll probably start showing up again after spring break.
at gatech. The kid I ride with who does have a car is gonna be gone this Friday. Plus, I think I am hanging out at my friend's appt. friday, but I'm not sure.
Has the Woody's Thing started yet? If so was it cool?
I've been trying to skate but I ####ed up my arm/elbow pretty bad. some mellow crap is probably all I can risk right now without a cast. If i fall on it again before it's healed enough i'll end up needing surgery.
