ok, ive talked to a few people boarding in alabama, but theres not much, im seeing if anyone from the Birmigham area is on the fish, if so lets try to get something started, get a group going or something.
We do have a couple smaller parks within 45 minute drive. We also have one in Gulf Shores. The big park people usually go to is X Park in Pensacola, Florida. Never been there on my board just on my bike. So I dont know how good it would be.Once the local shop recovers from the last hurricane they are going to rebuild their mini ramp in the front of their shop.
We usually dont go to parks though we just go to a couple of our favorite hill spots and some parking garages so that we can cruise and work on our slides. If anyone does decide to come down here we will take you to "Big Bertha" its the biggest hill in mobile. I need to get a pic of it up.
There have been a few B-ham guys that used to post on here. Not sure what happened to them all.
Lots of good hills to bomb and cruise around B-ham. There is one hill up near Warrior that you can see from the interstate that looks like real fun.
Huntsville used to have a real good longboard scene. I'm a few years removed from it now so I'm not sure what the head count is. Maybe Moldy there can clue us in. Lots of good spots around Huntsville area. Lots of ditches there too. There had been a group doing a night ride on fridays.
Check out skatealabama.com. There used to be a forum on Ride skateshops web page but I"m not sure that's still up.
Birmingham is just dying for some longboard action. My folks live down there and everytime I visit I see so many things to skate. So get active and hit up the shops.

im About an hour south of b-ham between montevallo and tuscaloosa, nobody in this town has a board but me, need someone to ride with, like to ride for hours
I know there are still quite a few longboarders in the 'ville. Matt went out of business, so no more 4motion. Buy all my gear from online vendors now. I would try to organize something
but I'm just too damn antisocial.

I figured it was only a matter of time before Matt went out of business. Shame. Flip always hooked me up at World Conspiracy but I know some have their issues with him. Also he couldn't get most of the longboard gear I wanted. The new shop on southside sounds like they could cater more to the niche skaters but I wouldn't really know first hand. Ordering online is about your only option most towns. I know that's how it is where I live now.
We used to have such a big longboard scene in Huntsville there for awhile. Some sundays we'd be like 12 and 15 riders bombing a hill. Not sure what happened to them all. It's pretty easy to organize rides. You set up a routine, skate the same spot on the same day at the same time every week. Let people know you're going to be there and that they are welcome to join. That's how we got to be 15 deep that one summer. Use this forum and skatealabama to set up rides, meet ups and such.
I still do what I can for the Huntsville and Alabama scene. I always do what I can to promote longboarding and slalom there. Sometimes all you have to do is show up with boards. Isn't that right, Moldy? Also when in Huntsville hit up Bandito Burrito. There are a few longboarders that pass thru there and the food is good.

cool, I read in the plainsman they had a hearing about another park up there. I used to ride the little one and skate some hills around there when my wife was my girlfriend and lived in Auburn. I skated the parking deck at Jordan-Hare some also until the cops stopped me.
I have my eye on a new parking deck, might have to hit it early on a Sunday though.

yeah. i went up there to support. the hearing went amazingly well. the council seemed more accepting than i would have thought. but who knows how long it'll take to get put in the budget.
ah, i bet jordan-hare would be an awesome spot; minus the cops.
sunday mornings should prove ideal for that new deck beside the stadium though. there's rarely anyone there; just watch out for the baseball gamedays.
