I live in St.Pete Fl. We have a trail here called the Pinellas trail. It's 37 mi long, and it is one hell of a great place to skate. I live about 2 miles from the spot where I hit the trail. So this is my warm up, cool down space. On monday I headed north decided to go to the end and back. the trail distance to the end from there is 21.5 miles. The trail is paved well with over passes at most of the heavy traffic areas. The trail it self is wide enough to accommodate all the bike, inline, and pedestrian traffic and still leave enough space for the kooks like me. I do not pump much, maybe 1 of every 10 miles. though I try to maintain at least a 7 to 10 mph clip.I don't quite skog. I do switch legs.
Any way, the trail was quiet and the day was warm. I got home with 45miles on the GPS in about 4hr 45min. I was not attempting any records, just enjoying a day out on the trail.
If any body is near the Pinellas Trail, give it a go. It conceals itself well in this urban environment for the most part. but, you are all ways close to a bus to get you back if you push to far. and I would love to see some other longboard enthusiasts out there.

FunkyPinner,
I remember biking the trail years ago and it was a blast.
Good to hear it's also fun to skate.
I don't remember too well how the surface was.
Is the surface pretty smooth and consistent from Dunedin down through St. Pete ?

we skate pretty regular on the trail by the bridge that goes over mcmullen booth rd. there are a few runs and some good corners.
we usually dont push the whole distance but stay in that one area where there are hills after you leave the bridge
Is that the "East-West/Ream Wilson trail", from the Long Center in Clearwater to Bayshore in Safety Harbor? If so, do you actually ride down that steep grade hill near the boardwalk? I'd never do that unless I had spotters because I never know who might be coming down around the turn, as it's pretty narrow!

yeah flapper was talking about ream wilson. we ride the steep part with a spotter ive clocked myself right at 30 on it.
Yea i live about...a 1/2 mile from the trail and its definetly a safe place to skate(im up in orlando for school now though). But the trail is a lot more than 20 miles its about 40 from gibbs high all the way to tarpon. I remember b/c i biked all the way to the end and had to call a friend to come get me Anyway yea its fun b/c you can get speed from the raised sidewalks but the flats would wear me out.
The Trail is cool except for those stupid truncated domes they have put every where for ADA...
.
Wasn't the trail closed at marshal in Clearwater? did you have to hoof it..
Progress energy trail is going up now too.. Eventually you will be able to do an entire giant circle around Pinellas county.. Go to the Pinellas MPO you can see a map..
East-West trail in Clearwater is cool too some nice hills to bomb too..
I've been thinking about the Old Gandy... "For you guys who don't know it was the old two lane bridge that goes across Tampa bay, instead of paying millions to tear it down they made it a trail.."
its a really nice stretch and I'm wondering how good the bomb would be on the Hump..
a lot of people might bitch about the cones. its used by A LOT of bikes, bladers and walkers on the weekend
I understand completely.
You have to pick the right areas for cones.
General longboarding in places like that, I'm sure.
The Withlacoochee Trail here, is 46 miles long, but hills are kinda weak on it.
Better off with some of the more western trails.
