Re: Fort Worth TX, TCU area
How about these?

Also, how the hell do I find my user profile to make changes? "Confused" would be a better description for me than "stoked" right now.

You would click on "My Controls" up in the top right corner.
I would also recommend some Paris or Randal 180s, best two all-around trucks you can get really.. well, I suppose you could count Bears in there too. And for wheels, something generic, over 70mm and around 80a.. 83a isn't really too hard, it's just hardER.. 83a is getting into the rough territory. Anything below that is nice and smooooth. Honestly, for your first set of wheels.. I usually tell people something like 78a.. 77a big zigs even, lol. Sliding out for your first time without expecting it is never a fun experience. And for an older gentleman, it might hurt a bit more.. It's all in what you want tho.. also, don't forget risers. Chances are if you're going 70mm+ you're going to have to deal with wheelbite issues, and that can be a real downer.
Hope you get up and boarding again soon!

Re: Fort Worth TX, TCU area
After much gnashing of teeth I decided on Abec 11 76mm/78a Gumballs. I saw a picture of a board with a deck similar to mine with those or some other lime green wheels and decided it looked okay after all. I also ordered the Randal 180s, Abec 7 bearings, angled risers, etc.
If you can't hit bottom, wear the sides out.

I was in the neighborhood last night so I drove up Burton Hill; I guess the speed hump wouldn't bother experienced skaters but I think I'll start out elsewhere.

Dude, I don't even have my first board yet; I really think I need to avoid speed humps for a while.

Re: Fort Worth TX, TCU area
Props to JohnW for taking me to a progressively challenging series of runs and giving me some pointers on how to avoid eating pavement.
I still haven't figured out how to change the status under my user name but at least now it fits a little better. It's good to know that I don't suck at this so badly that the board was a complete waste of money.
