Question Re: Fort Worth TX, TCU area

I found this thread while searching for info on longboarding in FW. I'm an old guy in Fairmount who used to suck at skating about thirty years ago. I'm interested in longboards because going down hills fast was what I liked best in those days. I had a series of freestyle boards that I wasn't very good with and they weren't good for just going fast - wheel wobble usually kicked my ass. Can you offer any advice about entry-level equipment for bombing?

Okay - I guess I need to be more specific. I bought a 44" x 9.5" wood laminate board - now what about wheels and trucks? How wide should the trucks be? What diameter and durometer should the wheels be?

    what shape is the board?
as for trucks 180mm randals would be ideal, and wheels i would say an 80a 70-75mm

The deck is a Koastal Classic so it's a pretty generic skateboard deck shape. I like the retro look and I'm not trying to win races or anything.

I've found some package deals on eBay with Randal 180s but the wheels are harder - 83a - is that too hard?

idk i've heard some horror stories about buying trucks and wheels from ebay, they picture randals but what they send you are fakes but look so similar that you don't notice and those wheels and probably not that great of quality just an incentive to buy. I highly recommend the retro limes or orangatang 80a 4pres. 83a just isn't as smooth and soft, makes for a nicer ride. I would say if you want a bargain, check the classifieds here on the fish or just buy brand new, you get what you pay for.

Smile Re: Fort Worth TX, TCU area

Keep spreading the love Texas. And the STOKE keeps growing.

I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world.. without you. A world without rules or controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible.

hey dudz! I would go with Paris or Randalls 180's....SundaeSkates.com longboard skate company has all of that for the best price and there in TX so fast shipping, shipping may be free too, not really sure though. I would go with orange Otangs for wheels

Thanks to both of you for the help. I'll probably go with the Randals but I'm not decided on wheels yet. I'd like something in a more subdued color to go with the natural look of the deck. I think boards that look like green and purple space ships are cool and I might put one together later, but right now that's not what I'm after. I will check out that website.

P.S. - I might have to change my user name; I'm surprised at how many other guys my age are on this forum.
