UNM team paperwork time...

Alright, so it's officially time to get this gig rolling for real.

A lot of you have expressed interest, and I need to fill some apps out. We need a set of by-laws, so I created this thread so that you, the reader can A) Interpret what "by-laws" means for me

and B) help me define what they are.

Get to it!

usually by laws are a set of rules for a organization. So basically what will govern the teams behavior and such. for instance all members will wear a helmet while skating or stuff like if a member does not attend at least 8 practices a month they will be suspended for X amount of weeks. Just examples although the helmet and protective gear thing is a good. ya know?
it might be a good idea to ask for a copy of the by laws from another club to get a good idea though. i think we have a cycling club so they might have similar by laws to what we would need.
when do you want to turn this stuff in? (just curious, id like to help if i can but i wont be able to till mid august)

I know peeps on the cycling team, I'll talk to them. How about by-law #1 is a helmet at all skate events...any objections?

just occurred to me today that an important thing would be to have all members to fill out like a health sheet. something with their insurance information , emergency contacts and all that stuff. so that if someone takes it hard at a event someone can bust out their health sheet.

good point, we might want to have a deal worked out with with the SHC. 10 broken bones and get one cast free, lol

lol maybe we can get our own emergency room. be the only team with a hospital sponsor ship.

I'm with the az guys but this is very interesting to me. I will stay tuned to see what happens! This will make things very profesional. Do you really want to have to ALWAYS wear a helmet? I know for a pusher or a cruiser I wouldn't want to HAVE to wear a helmet.

I would say that you must wear a helmet at all times you are on your board. Set a good example.

I think I would have to change my position and agree with you. I'm aiming for legit intercollegiate sport status, and the university would like it, too. I'm ok with wearing a helmet all the time.

i was just thinkin somethin like whenever we are at an event or race we have to wear one, but i guess one all the time is a good thing too
i like that whole thing with practices, and while were at it what will practice consist of?

Hey I am new to the forums, mainly because Gringo up there told me to get on here and see it for myself that you guys were making a UNM Lonboarding Team. I am way crazy interested, though I wouldn't be joining right this second mainly because I need to fix my board

[and polish my skills] I will probably join as soon as I can after my board is put back together.

Well, I will probably just lurk this thread a little more until I can think of anything else to ask or add. =D

yeah we used to have a similar rule on my lacrosse team (the one about practices, helmets are a must at minimum when your with the team, should be always). i think we would have to get everyone together to get a idea about practices. that way we can split into disciplines and maybe if there are people in each discipline that are far above the others we can set them as coaches. then each coach can set up drills and such. could be cool if we do it like lax practices where everyone splits up into disciplines during practices then gets together at the end of practice for a fun skate. maybe some of the team abq guys might like to coach or something. i haven't been to any of the meetings so don't know what kind of feeling you guys are goin for but those are some ideas i felt like puttin out there.

I understand why for lacrosse you only have to wear safety gear at practice, because you are only playing lacrosse at practice. But with skating you will be riding your board all over campus all the time, that is practice. So helmets should be worn all the time. Not only are you setting a good example, but you're being smart.
A fall from five feet could kill you. Add in moving, leaning/turning, pedestrians, obstructions, walkways, walls, stupid jerks, bikes and the unknown and you have a high probability of dying on your way to class. I think if you are on your board on campus you should always wear a helmet and gloves. It's not going to hurt you by wearing one.

easy thokk, easy. i was the first one to recommend helmets lol i should have been more specific, when i said i had the same rule in lacrosse i meant the rule i was talking about before where if you miss too many practices you are suspended from competition and practice. i fully support the helmet idea, for all the reasons you mentioned and more (plus im training to become a paramedic.) good points none the less though.

We need some rules to govern use of team gear, which we will most likely have should we get funding. I know Johnson will hold on to some stuff. Also, I'm thinking of getting free business cards for all team members. I've had positive feedback from the mobshop for a team discount, and I don't want any UNM student going in there claiming discounts when they don't ride with the team.

that card set up is a good idea. Johnson is a dude or are we talkin about the gym? lol do you think team members should take gear home maybe under the condition that they will be charged for damage done while not at a event or practice? maybe some sort of schedule for team maintenance. like every second friday of the month we clean our bearing and make repairs and such.
just some ideas.
any thing in particular you need ideas on? might be easier if we can work through different issues one at a time.

the card thing is pretty down and like you said prevents douches' to go in there and try and rip off the shop posing as a member of the team. define gear.... because i think everyone should at be able to supply at least their own gloves and helmet, especially the gloves seein that they can be made for cheep.
