Wish I would have looked sooner. Hit up Butter Hill (Hawes) for a few runs yesterday. Dont really care for that new surface, kind of unpredictable in spots.
I went out skating that night at some of the garages on the ASU campus... bad call.
We went to the Fulton Center 5 story, second time going down there's a police ford explorer going up the ramp. I blew past him as he got out of the car and ran down the stairs. They usually don't give chase...
Then we went to the University Towers parking structure and half way down on the second time there was a lady cop standing in the middle of the ramp. I stopped and ran back over to the stairs and just dipped... again.
Then we went to yet another parking garage. Bike cops are sitting on top so we just snuck back to the elevator and went back down... bad night for skating ha.

man thats some bad luck. me and blstndwn went all over tempe last night scouting garages and never ran into any popos . and why would u get off your board and walk down the stairs when u could skate down and dip wayyyy faster?

Running down stairs in a parking garage is usually much faster in terms of getting to the bottom as fast as possible. Plus if you happen to fall you're pretty much screwed.
But mainly it's because cars/bikes/segways can't chase you down the stairs. When they aren't on foot they'll chase you down the garage if you keep bombing it then force you off of your board if they get pissed. You can get like a 300 dollar ticket so I'd rather not take the risk.

If you stop it's a 50/50 chance of getting a ticket if you stop. (in my opinion) If you run your more likely to get added charges such as evading. Our ticket was for $150, you get caught, you wait and you be honest. You know you're somewhere you shouldn't be, just suck it up and face the music. Like my dad always said, "You cant outrun the radio", plus they usually travel in pairs, especially the ASU cops. Remember that the economy is shitty right now, so they will write a ticket for anything right now to get the city money.

I've stopped and been polite for a few because I know whether or not I can get away, I know when I'm beat.

Im with ya though, I have managed to get away a time or two. I think some hand held scanners might be in order
I was thinking the exact same thing. They just cost a bit... I guess if I were to split up the cost between my group it wouldn't be so bad but yeah... It's getting worse though, I think I might stop skating the garages here for a bit until things blow over. They have police regularly posted around the parking garages making rounds to each one it seems. Well we went to the Fulton Parking Structure (5 stories on College and University) and went down it once. All clear. We go back up to the top and I peek around the corner again. ASU security in a brown Jeep/Ford Explorer (couldn't tell which) is there on the opposite side. No idea how they drove up without us seeing them... but we sneaked back into the elevator and went down. We started skating north on college and a Tempe police car is on a side street off of College talking to a regular dark green 4 door jeep. I'm lagging a bit behind the group which consists of about 5 other people, we're headed to the University Towers Parking Structure. (It's a 5 story but it's ramps all the way down, no flat spots. Really fun for sliding/racing.) I go down once and I circle around and go out a back alley to burn off my speed, because my Puma's are almost worn all the way through. I stop and I see the dark green Jeep sitting in a parallel parking spot at the end of the runoff street about 40 yards away. I sit there and stare at it for about 30 seconds, because it's shut off, no lights on, and there's a guy sitting in it perfectly still. I didn't even notice him at first. After I was done staring awkwardly I started to step back on my board, that's when the door burst open and he yelled "HEY GET OVER HERE KID". I get on my board and turn the burners on, going back through the parking garage and through a different exit out onto Mill Ave. My friends were still going down so I warned them when I was flying past and we all split up. That security in the unmarked Jeep must have followed us from the first garage. When I got back to my dorm there was a police car (pretty sure it was the one I saw talking to the unmarked Jeep) sitting outside and as I skated by he got out, so I stopped. (By the way, he was just parked on the sidewalk in front of my dorm... cops drive on sidewalks here in full sized police cruisers all the time and take up the entire road...) He must have recognized me because I was the only one wearing a helmet in our group. And it just happened to be a bright firetruck red full-face. Pretty stealth eh? There wasn't anywhere to run. He asked me if I had been skating down that parking garage (pointing to Fulton) and I said "Sorry Officer but I'm going to invoke my 5th Amendment right." He said "Then have a nice day," then shook his head and got back in his car. I then walked the rest of 50 feet to my dorm and now I'm here.
Wow that's a lot of writing... I don't blame anyone who doesn't want to read it haha. Didn't realize it'd turn into an essay.

in a sense it's fun running from them, but if you get caught it sucks =( not sure why they're cracking down so hard on skating, sure there's other stuff to do, good story lol

Yeah the closest call I had was when we got to the top of a garage and went around the corner. Elevator door closed and there was a police SUV on the opposite side. We said #### it, threw down our boards and started bombing down it. Fastest I've ever been in that garage. Well when we did that the police SUV actually gave chase ha. It was following us about 30ft back, but he couldn't keep up in the corners at all. When we got to the bottom the gates were down, we just tucked under them and dipped while he had to just sit there.
But yeah... the "supposed" reason they're cracking down on it is because they don't want us to hit/get hit by a car. Which is stupid because at that time the garages are empty besides a few cars and most of the gates are closed. At least that's what one officer told us when he snuck up on us on top of a garage.

Tuesday night, Rio Saldado,10 riders
perfect weather, good time.
No security , no cops.
Wednesday more skating.
Yeah the 10 story usually has no cops or security there. I've seen security there once writing up a bunch of regular skateboarders doing tricks on the ground level.
When are you going today? I'm down to skate. Just not in the garages in the middle of campus haha.
