Dtich Slap '08
It's time to nail it down and announce that Ditch Slap will be held from May 1st to May 4th 2008. The Indian School Invitational and Ditch Slap '08 will NOT be held in conjunction with each other for many reasons. The few "Elite" Indian School invitees and their race organizers need to FOCUS with minimal distraction to be able to pull off their race successfully, in one shot.
Ditch Slap on the other hand will last at least 4 days, be very diverse with venues all over Albuquqerque, including 3 Banked Slalom races, the Chinese Ditch race, a Crosstown race, suprise races and jams and endless shuttles provided for all participants. Basically one GIANT distraction for the masses!!
Details will be posted soon on the Contest Calendar on ncdsa.com
come and ride with the TSR crew! this event is the most amount of riding you will ever get for a $100 entry fee! if you've never skated the legendary ditches of ABQ you have no excuse!

Re: Dtich Slap '08
The Price man speaks wise words!
last year there we put about 25 miles a day in the ditches and everyday ended with a 2 mile ditch ride that ended at the hotel parking lot.
Even though it is only scheduled for 4 days, your legs WILL be sore, your face WILL be sore (from the perma grin) and you WILL get Ditch Slapped!
There are many in the NW that are planning at least a week around that time.

I'm really considering it... gotta see who is coming from the Van/Seattle area and maybe hit it up with 'em. Don't know if I'll have the cash, though.

Re: Ditch Slap '08
I noticed that last year, there was a fake schedule of events (wrong days and times) posted here at Silverfish. I was told (is this right?) by several skateshop owners that "Timeship Racing insists on posting bogus times & locations in order to throw off the cops and so the locals can't come".
I heard, too, (correct me if I'm misinformed) that the Timeship folks were "unbelievably rude" to any and all locals who showed up to watch, that any skater from ABQ who showed up was "ordered to f* off, no spectators allowed". This seems odd, considering that our sport grew out of surfing...
I mean, if you showed up at a beach in California, and started telling all the local surfers to get out of the water and off the beach, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't end well.
I mention all this because the 'Burque ditches are full of dozens and dozens of both long- and short-boarders every weekend, and the Ditch Slap racers are the only skaters I've ever heard of getting the cops called on them. (The Indian School ditch race got busted in '07).
I wonder if the guys from Santa Fe who starting screaming at the locals to go away were the reason that the neighbors called the cops. That's what usually happens when elderly neighbors notice a bunch of guys with coolers yelling and making an ugly scene; granny calls the cops. Somehow this never happens to us locals. Go figure. Way to blow the skate spot!
Anyhow, what gives? Will there be an honest schedule of events posted next time, or will the post/link here at Silverfish be a fake, again? Do the Silverfish webmasters not mind that the Ditch Slap schedule posted on their site is bunk? 'Cause I was kinda peeved about having taken a day off work, only to find that Timeship had posted a phony schedule on the 'fish. Seems like kinda jerky thing to do.

I participated last year, I'm a local, and the schedule posted on ncdsa was correct. I didn't check the schedule posted here.
I guess since it's an "outlaw" event, they are concerned about getting busted. It's technically illegal to ride ditches, but the cops were pretty cool last year. They showed up at the end of katesnips race, and let us finish.
This isn't the X-games, so "spectators" aren't necessarily encouraged, but I didn't see or hear anyone getting asked to leave, especially locals. Maybe if some locals were causing trouble, being loud, bringing unneeded attention, then they would be asked to leave, but it didn't happen at the three races I attended last year.

And don't listen to (most of) the local skateshop owners, they are more concerned with selling the lastest "skate" shoes, than with actual skateboarding.

The times that were posted were as accurate as any other timeship event, the days were correct but the start times may have been slightly delayed.
The indian School race is NOT Timeship and due to the starting point being in a nicer residendial backyard, the noise of 40 skaters caused a problem.
Due to the crowds at other races people were advised to remain under bridges to reduce to bust factor and everyone , locals and visitors alike, were reminded of this often. This was the only activity that I noticed that may have pissed off anybody.
We were shut down at Kates Nips but due to the location (located right under a newer office building) it was hard to be stealthy. The cop that showed up was imperssed with the timing and safety of the riders and he then intentionally maintained the conversation so we could finish the race.
At every event there were many spectators and I never saw anyone asked to leave, only to respect the surroundings.
timeship in thier Ditch Slap materials gave a map of the ditches and an explaination the discretion factor with each one to help prevent visitors from blowing out a spot.
You really need to consider your sources before believing everything you hear on the internet.

i don't know what you are talking about with TSR guys yelling at locals to leave..and the Indian School race is NOT a timeship event at all. It is run by Rob Palmer and George Mclellen(sp?)...they asked timeship if we would lend our timing system for the race. we did. i helped run the timing system myself, for no compensation.
i think the reason that the cops were called is because there was 30-50 skaters hanging out at the top of the Indian school ditch, along with me and 5 other people hanging out at the bottom running the timing system along with photographers and spectators, thats alot of people, someone is bound to call the cops. which is why in my opinion Indian school is not the best ditch to run a race of that caliber in.
I will look into the messed up schedule thing.....it is highly possible that someone not asociated with TSR reposted the event times from another site and it got messed up somehow. we are working on the ditch slap '08 schedule now and it will be posted here, on coastlongboarding, ncdsa and Timeshipracing.com

JimZ and Jody Wilcox did that last year.
its a long drive from the bay area to NM. about 20-22 hours.see if you can drag JM, sakamoto or the rizzler with you. let me know if you need help with what routes to take to get here.
oh and do you skate roundwall? if so...bring a park/pool board for SURE
