UNM Parking Structure Heads Up: Bad Cop!
Hey Y'all...
Just a heads-up regarding a newly-hired UNM Campus Cop known as "Officer Hotpants"...this guy's a major skater hater!
He drives a cruiser on the night shift, but always wears skin-tight spandex hot pants; bike shorts that are like, three sizes too small, and make him look like he forgot to put his pants on when he left the house!
He's really tall, maybe 6 foot three (or four), pale thin white guy, big nose, weak chin, beady dark eyes, thinning short black hair with a big bald spot on top. He likes to brag that he "will tase any skater who attempts to run away from him when ordered to stop".
He's also the only UNM cop who radios for backup, when 86'ing skaters from the Parking Structure. What a pussy. There, I said it.
This guy's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Be on your guard. Anybody got a relative in UNM Administration who can help? Or better yet: a lawyer dad who can send a polite but intimidating letter to the Board of Regents, pointing out that Tasers can and do kill, and that all it will take is one idiot cop Tasering an asthmatic kid and killing him by accident, to unleash a storm of bad publicity and a very public and embarrassing lawsuit that will cost the cop his job, and get his boss fired, too. Not to mention costing the University a small fortune in legal fees. That alone should be sufficient motivation for the UNM Police to get rid of this jackass before he hurts someone.
I'm writing a letter to the editor of the Daily Lobo and another to the Chief of Police at UNM politely pointing out that although skaters may be a minor annoyance at times, we help the UNM cops out, without even meaning to: the fact that there are skaters in the UNM Parking Structure late at night means there aren't any bad guys hanging around looking for trouble...no rapists, no muggers, no gangbangers, no skinheads, no car thieves, none of it. Even though the UNM area used to be an incredibly bad neighborhood (in the late 90's we were the third most crime-infested college campus in the U.S., second only to U. of Chicago and UCLA at #1), nonetheless there hasn't been one violent crime in the whole time the Parking Structure's been open. Why? Because criminals don't like witnesses, of course! And also because the cops really have done a good job of making the neighborhood safe again (to give them the credit they deserve).
High-traffic areas with lots of potential witnesses stay safe, right? Bright lighting and those blue callboxes help, too (a lot), but my point is that the UNM Police should be thanking us for skating the Parking Structure: we keep the real criminals away! Skateboarding is not a crime! I suspect that a lot of them realize this already, and that maybe that's why they take such a tolerant, look-the-other-way attitude toward longboarders on campus at night.
I mean, 99% of the time, the UNM cops are great. They do their jobs, and don't run around terrorizing people the way the Parking Patrol goons do downtown.
It's just that once in a while they get a rotten apple who needs to be fed to the pigs.

Re: team abq
dude i got chased by Officer hotpants out of the parking garage and off of unm property. they caught me and have pressed charges for Resisting arrest. I have trial in september and had to do like 12 hours IN THE BIG HOUSE because this overzealous peice of waste pressed charges on a non criminal complaint. If you get stopped, make sure you make them tell you what you're being detained for. if its an actual crime, you have to stop. if its some BU****it like me, theyll tell you about unm visitor policy. you dont have to wait around for that.

Re: team abq
Attn: TEAM ABQ - I have posted recently about my pending visit to your fine city, and the time has arrived. I will be on the ground, on my board, in ABQ by about 2 tomorrow with my good friend and partner Andrew. We will be leaving on Saturday afternoon. I understand there may be some rain; bummer....
I have been in touch directly with a few who have said they would like to hook up - I am hoping to run into and/or intentionally meet a bunch of you while we are there - please give me a call, email or post here and let me know if you are interested!
Thanks.......David

I know - we're bummed. Hoping it clears up while we are there, or we will slide! Or we'll head for the hills and go hiking!

it's cool. it's usually realy wet one day, then really dry the next. keeps you on your toes, and doing all kinds of different things on your board(S). i love our weather. it forces you to be a good all around longboarder.

Re: team abq
I really like your attitude - take it as it comes! We figure even if the ditches have water we can hit the roads on non-rain days. Give me a call if you can make it!

Re: team abq
haha its going to be dry...it was rainy all morning/early afternoon and now its hot and dry...so i wouldnt worry about that too much, especially since youll be here for a few days.
I have tomorrow off and would be down to make a good few ditch runs, are you guys renting a car?
If so, we'll get a shuttle going and hit several ditches without hiking at all.
This goes for everyone, if you got time tomorrow, lets skate it up!

Re: team abq
That just doesn't sound like a good idea. I think that we should fight this legally. Or instead of getting masses of people to skate the structure, we should find him, and just cruise around him for like 3 hours. That way we aren't doing anything "illegal" and it would still piss him off.
And Bear, I figured out how to get the videos off of youtube.
