Talking DFW best areas to ride?

Hey out there. If you guys could list some of the better areas in DFW to ride, I would be very appreciative. I've primarily been sticking to the local jogging trails here in Flower Mound with my kids as they scooter and bike. I am looking to leave the kids and do some longer skates at faster speeds. Where downtown? What parking garages? Do you get chased out of the garages? Which parks? Where and when can you ride these areas? Are cops more likely to run you off from certain areas and at certain times? I know alot of great motorcycle rides in North Texas, but now I'm looking for the great skates. Just got into longboarding. I used to be a skate punk back in the 80's, and it's great to be back on a board. Everyone's making fun of me, but it's just too fun and I'm too healthy not to enjoy it while I can. Can't surf the waves in Texas might as well surf the concrete, right?

I know exactly what you mean. I spent a year in Dallas. I lived just of of White Rock Lake. It's all flat, but the trail around the lake would be nice, when the temp gets below 100, sometime in October. lol. The neighborhoods around there should be good to ride in as well.

Hey buddy. Well, there really are a lot of different places here to skate depending on what you're wanting to do. Dallas has some sick garages downtown and a few off of 75 a little north of downtown. if you are wanting to do some downhill, you can find quite a few 30ish mph runs in random neighborhoods throughout the metroplex, but we usually hit up the same couple. Aledo, on the west side of Ft. Worth is where you start getting into the really good DH stuff. 40+ mph runs are common out there.

the scene here in DFW is pretty amazing. the two biggest crews i would say are our crew (Bombsquad Longboarding) and Tx. Baked. The majority of us in Bombsquad live in and around Arlington, and the Tx. Baked guys are more in the Ft. Worth/Aledo area. They are all really cool people and are crazy good skaters. We have a lot of fun when we hit up anything.

There is also the more casual crew, with the main members being Mark and Edwin from Texas Longboards - Longboard Skateboard Store

Their groups range in age from 16-46 years old. Any given day they could have a crew of 20 people out terrorizing the streets of dallas or denton, or just about anywhere else. I skate with mark a lot in dallas on the Katy Trail, just pushing around. its a good workout and is a lot of fun if you can get a large group of people to go!

Also if you ever need anything longboard related, dont go to a zumies or a mall shop. get it from mark and edwin at Texas Longboards - Longboard Skateboard Store. they have most of the essentials like trucks, wheels, bearings, hardware, pads, etc. plus carry a good selection of decks. Mark has inventory in Dallas and Edwin has inventory in Denton, so local pickup is convienient. Support the local guy.

also, they just put in their order to get Rayne skateboards, and they should be arriving in the next few weeks. that is very exciting for me, being that they make all my favorite boards. They also carry, Landyachtz, Longboard Larry, and Loaded. (what is it with the "L" skate brands names)

here are a couple of pics of the two main downtown garages we do.

This one is "Mozart". Probably the fastest, gnarliest garage in downtown. 12 stories of fun. Its just a square for the most part with all of the ramps being downs. there are no flats at all, so you just keep accelerating the whole way down, unless you scrub some speed with your gloves or whatever else. Its definitely not a place i would recommend for someone new to garages. super fast and tight.

another of our favorites is the Star Parking garage. its at San Jacinto and Ross in Downtown. its got some pretty long ramps down, with a flat in the corner, then another down, etc... its pretty fast too, but not anywhere near as intense as Mozart.

There is a garage in Las Colinas that is absoluely perfect for people just starting out with garages. its 8 stories, you can choose to go toeside or heelside, and its got a long down, then flat around the corner and a flat straight, then turns back to the down and repeat.

another good garage is at I-75 and Caruth Haven, behind the Steak & Shake there. its pretty decent for new riders, but there is one catch. No elevators... its i think 9 or 10 stories, but you can stop at level 5 or soemthign if you dont want to walk all the way back up.

anyway, PM me with your number and ill let you know when we are gonna be skating. our crew skates about 5 days a week, sometimes more. A lot of days we just stay in the Arlington area, but probably 2-3 nights a week we head to dallas for some killer garages.

send me that PM and we'll get in touch. later buddy.

Brad,

Thanks for the all the info. I'm looking forward to skating those garages. Should I be wary of any security? I'll PM you and get you my info. Hopefully I'll have some availability to match yours.

most of the garages we skate are pretty safe as far as security goes. The Star Parking garage is a different story though. There is this little troll security woman that is mean as hell. She looks like shed body check you in an instant if she saw you coming down. All you need to do is get to the elevator inside the door and you should be good. There are cameras facing the elevators from both directions so that's what makes it a little bit tricky.

There are so many garages littered throughout Dallas it's hard to say who has security and who doesn't. We just try stuff till we get kicked out usually. Most of the security we've come across has actually been pretty cool. We had one guy even suggest places to skate. Just act ignorant, wear some pads and you should be good. Tell them you are new to skating or something and you didn't wanna practice in the streets with all kinds of moving cars and people around, and that you just figures it would be more safe in somewhere like a garage. We've used that one before with pretty decent luck. That excuse is a little harder to pull off though when you are with 10 people and all wearing fullface helmets. They just know you are lying to them at that point.

We will probably be hitting up Dallas in the next day or so. Talk to you soon.

Well we went to Las Colinas. We got ran out of the 8 story BankofAmerica Garage. That thing was awesome till we were confronted by the security dork. It was pretty funny when he realized the skateboarders were men in there thirties, but still asked us to leave. The 6 story garage just up the road across from Lake Caryl?, worked out nicely and noone ran us off. Elevator and all. There seem to be about 6 other garages in the immediate area we are looking to try Friday or Saturday night.

The BOA garage is the one that you can skate either direction right? And the bottom two floors are underground? That's the one I was talking about that is great for learning garages. We have been kicked out a few times but there have been way more times that we haven't been kicked. Glad to hear you got some skating in though. My crew will be in Dallas I'm sure one night this weekend. I'll post on here if we do.

my favorite garage in downtown is the one that has chain sides where they put up huge movie advertisements
the first time me and my friend skated it there was a big narnia ad on it, haha it was amazing, we were really blazed when we saw it and i was like, "holy s hit, i want to skate inside of narnia!"
that one is amazing, 13 stories, and they have the both way ramps, and halfway down each story there is a cutoff where you can go to the otherside, or you can ride the full ramp and just keep going down.
the garage is forever know as narnia to us, haha

I don't have a car so I don't know very many spots outside of my city (Euless). BUT I do know that there's a sick speedboarding spot in Dallas county around the intersection of S Walton Walker Blvd and W Illinois Ave.

Talk about bombing, you can easily reach freeway speeds on this monster.

Hey, we will have to check out this location. Like is the run out safe, do you have to slide at end of run, could a car hit you or you hit a car? Safety and fun are on the top of the list, because crashing at high speed sucks even when you have the proper safety gear. I know I cracked a motorcycle helmit last monday. Suffered the results of a moderate concussion for 2 days. Lets bomb some hills!!
