What are some good roads actually in Albuquerque for getting up to speed/practicing getting up to speed?
If you want to PM me rather than post your spots, totally understandable.
I promise i won't ruin them.
Thanks
in my opinion one of the best places to practice and i guess get used to the feelin would be on washington from constitution to indian school
its nice smooth surface and its pretty long and also about half way it has a small uphill which i think is actually pretty good to run out "SOME" of your speed
and once you get used to it, it is just way to much fun
no prob
and whats also cool about this spot is that is a 4 way stop at the top of a hill....
so theres like 4 ways you can go lol
one way thats just pretty chill, one way thats really long and one thats just for speed (havent tried the other way, looks pretty chill though lol)
but yea if your at the top of washington and constitution and look at all the ways you can pretty much tell which is which
I don't understand why everyone likes that hill so much. I live right by it, it's fast, really fast. And when you get to the bottom, you meet- no more bike path, and lots of sand. The only way to avoid the sand is to go into the street, not fun.
I say the foothills is better, anywhere up there. Or the east mountains, if you have the gas, a lot less traffic.

that's why the four way stop is handy, just time it so there are no cars, and bomb in the street, it tops out at 32 with a tailwind (GPS). Also the ridgecrest neighborhood has some good hills topping out around 25, for any faster hit the heights and east mountains definately

Re: 'Burque Speed Roads
Martin Luther King Blvd., between University Blvd. and Broadway is fun. I ride it on the wrong side so I can see the cars coming. The lower section, below I-25 is very smooth and wide with a median protecting your back, the upper section's not as bad as it looks, as the road's heavily textured and slows you down a bit. In the winter it's empty after 10 pm, just beware cars turning out of the I-25 off-ramp.
Spain between Tramway and Wyoming would be totally insane, the road's perfectly smooth but the intersections are blind and dark and your sliding skills would have to be excellent, I mean like those Austrian guys on YouTube. It's too steep for me, even with a leather jacket and full pads. If you're awesome and brave it might be doable in sections.
Ya, those are nice ^^.
I've hit up a few. I live in the valley though, so i'm looking for some closer.
I think i'ma go out tonight for a bit if anyone's down for riding with some noobs.

highway 337. it's like the crest road, but the turns are much larger, and more fun, and it's smoother, and there is less traffic. check it out on goolge maps. it's right by tijeras.

been there, done that..... sorta.
Just west of UNM Campus is a Street called Roma. Or Mi Amor as we like to call it. You can go balls to the wall and there are a bunch of side streets that add a wide variety of variations to the hill. I would say speeds range depending on how fast of a rider you are and how seriously you take the hill.
that hill is pretty nice, lots of variation. only problem is you need to know how to slide or foot brake at high speeds.
I took that hill full speed before I could brake at full speed, tried to slide (couldn't slide very well), and ended up running into a curb. then flying into a stop sign, then into a bush, wasn't fun.
