re: San Antonio LongBoarders - SLAB!
Yo SLABr's,
How many of you guys would be interested in going up to Dallas to skate some garages with the Bombsquaders? They'd be happy to show us their stuff when ever we could get up there. Suggested plan would be leave SA by 3 on Friday afternoon get there around 9, skate all night and be back by 3 Sat. I can go Sep 25th or Oct. 2. If we rented a minivan and (7) went it would be $ 25 ea or a passenger van up 15 peops it would be 30-35 buckaroos. If we drove personal cars then gas would be the passengers note to pay.
What ye say?

I'm totally down. I think renting a van is cheaper, as long as people can get off work and not need to come back early, but this is pretty advanced notice. Just let me know which friday so I can ask to get out early.

Hey man I don't think it's too big of a deal. It's not like you're claiming you started the thing and I think everybody is viewing the nac weekend as more of a laid back event anyways. If it were the sizzler or some crap then maybe, but I don't think anybody should get up in arms about it. I saw the captain option on the registration form...maybe we should all click it haha It's all good

re: San Antonio LongBoarders - SLAB!
wow triple post...where is errrbody?
So anyways, first day back on the board after the wipe. Plan was to meet up with Mike at evans/canyon gulf then iron horse. I guess the staff at the old folks home was slacking and didnt wake mike up in time lol (just kidding man). I ended up doing evans a few times by myself, but with minimal kicking at the top. The first run was...not my prettiest, lots of twitching and flailing of arms on the way down, but I made it. haha. I Did evans a few times and decided to head to babcock bc it's a hill I'm much more familiar with and I figured I could work my way back up to speed there. I did a few runs a bcock, but I still felt a little stiff, I think it was more so being off my board for a while and not really falling a few days ago. Just overthinking everything too. Traffic starting picking up so I headed down the road to Kyle Seale...which is fun as ####. From the very top, heading towards bcock if you air brake you will make it over the little hump just before cedar knoll and then down the second half of the hill. I didn't bomb from the top, but I'll bet it's 40mph if you're kicking hard...it's pretty dang long too. The bikers were digging my board and i was digging their stoke. Kyle Seale sucks to walk back up, but then again I was by myself cause old man bombhills(mike) was sleeping haha.
In all fairness Mike called me up and we were gonna head up to Iron Horse, Luke was talking about coming too, but I had to bail bc of some damage control with the g/f that I needed to take care of.
The bell drop is a great helmet, plenty of visibility, comfortable, I didn't feel like i was wearing a helmet at all and it looks rad.
I realized that I can start over at evans/canyon gulf then go to babcock/kyle seale/marnoch the go to iron horse and then sugarberry/rockwall mill all on the way home, and their all pretty close to each other. We need to try rockwall mill for an early session next sunday, spotters are needed for the intersection with alamo prkwy, but it's a fast, smooth and loooooong run if we can make it.
Who's going to Austin for the labor day race thing? Vanessa is coming with to watch, we can fit two extra people in the jeep plus gear. I'm going just because they will probably raffle #### off...5 dollar raffle ticket for a chance to get some crails? I'd buy the ticket for a high five cuz we'll win anyways haha.
I'm gonna register for nac tommorow. Who all is going? We need to figure out where we're gonna crash...sleep I mean...no one needs to crash :shudder:
When do we wanna go to dfw and skate with dem dudes up der? I'm good any weekend, if we leave on a friday afternoon I just need to know ahead of time to ask to leave early. I vote for kelly's van idea.
I think we should go to Iron Horse on wednesday.
Taffy is delicious.
Someone post already. It's starting to look like I lurk on here all day...

This is the one I got. I was gonna get a black one but it's too hot here and every little bit counts, especially around your head.
I am planning on doing the charly face shield mod to the helmet. I'm not gonna mount it to the sun-visor mounts though. I need to be able to drill two holes lower on the helmet where the face shield's threads are. I should only have to cut around the chin guard and then it will sit flush. easier said than done, been trying to read the threads on how people did it.

re: San Antonio LongBoarders - SLAB!
yo
so yesterday i skated around my neighborhood with nate (hes come to skate like twice i think) working on some dancing skills. I picked up some new moves from him so that was coo.
today i got some bearing lube from zumies, there was actually ppl in the store and a couple looking at the longboards on the wall. no idea what the F the sales dude was trying to tell the guys looking at them but i over heard "surfboard on wheels" while they were looking at a GOS and had to interfere to get some service anyway so when sales dude mentioned how it turned i threw in a quick "the tightness of your trucks and the bushings make all the difference in how it turns" which basically got me 3 blank stares but made sales dude get me the damn speed cream.
However, i do believe we need some business cards of some sort to put in stores like zumies or anywhere else that sells longboards.
I'm thinking it would just have this site or simple instructions like on one side put "new to longboarding?"
and on the other put
silverfish.com southwest and Texas. san antonio long boarders.
or maybe just stop at silverfish.com and let them figure out the rest on their own.
Kinda an effort to help new boarders figure out some basics and not just get pissed after falling once and never riding again.
Maybe one of our members who have donated to the fish (tom?) could ask who ever owns the fish for some business cards. cause seriously if they just stop at silverfish.com thats some cheap advertising for the site right?

re: San Antonio LongBoarders - SLAB!
oh man, i can just imagine the whole store stopping at the idea of actually changing bushings.
If we had business cards...we could win lunches...
I we get some stickers we could just tell zumiez to give them to people who buy longboards. On the back they could say google: san antonio longboarders.
has anyone in the slab skated the Oust Mood wheels? Those things are ridiculously wide...65mm contact patch on a 76mm wheel.

re: San Antonio LongBoarders - SLAB!
Yeah, its kind of hard to get across what longboarding is to someone who has never seen it before. The zumiez reps from my experience have been very not knowledgeable about the longboard selection and longboarding in general. Business cards are a good idea, but I might have a better solution. Ive been planning on developing my own website for a good while, mainly its going to be a longboarding resource with an in depth buyers guide, explanations, video tutorials, safety and geared mostly towards new skaters. Mainly I just want to spread the word and tell the world about longboarding in my own way, and I think SF, faltown, and any other longboarding site I have explored lack in one way or another what I want to get across. Ill be developing the site from scratch 100% on my own and itll double as a little project for myself to see what Im capable of. Of course I can include a section just for SLAB with a message board, media section, schedule, what ever else if that would work for you guys. Unfortantly, Im not (realisticly) expecting the site to launch until probably the 1st of the new year.

[QUOTE=Jake From San Diego;1297701470]Hey dude welcome. I don't go to UTSA but I've skated with the guys over that way before. Have you been skating long? What part of town are you in?
Thanks,
To be honest dude. I was going to school last year at UTSA and my friend introduced me to longboarding. He has an earthwing supercharger. We would study for test and finals then go outside and have a good longboarding session. Then go back to studying. It was so much fun and was a great way to get away from book crunching all day long
I was asking him everyday if i could borrow it for a few hours of course he let me and ive wanted one of my own ever since. Sadly he moved to Austin and is now going to UT.
Im in the market right now for my very first longboard. Im wanting to get a dervish. I guess all the advertisement and the user base on these forums has made me want one.
I actually live on campus.

Get a Nemmy, nobody in our crew has a Nemmy. The Dervish is a great garage bomber and fun board, show up to the spect this wed. and you can skate mine.

m3rc: what's your schedule like dude? I don't know how much of this thread you have gone through, but we skate every wednesday night. Most of the time we skate saturday night/sunday morning as well. It's a good time.
Between everybody in SLAB there's probably the board or something really close to it that you can try before you buy. God knows we have enough bushing floating around.
