good luck with that. i used to work there and they are all about the money. I was the longboard tech from august until december and she talks alot about discounts but begrudges you when you use it. Their longboard selection is the best in the town because the dont sell just sector 9 but its marked up a shload.
buy online from different local skate shops.
Koa nalu = thumbs down

That's why Sector9 boards are so cheap, y'know. If you sell 10,000 boards a month, you don't have to charge $250 for each one. People love to puff their heads full of air and talk smack about S9, but I beat the hell out of my Bomb Hills deck all the time, and it just keeps coming back for more and riding like a sweet dream.
More customers = lower prices.
Why the hate? Sure, Koa Nalu's prices are higher than the skate shop in the mall, but so what? The owners have kids and a mortgage to pay, so they (surprise) actually want to make a profit. Your point? They've got a nice selection of hard-to-find parts, high-end boards that you can't find anywhere else in New Mexico...between Koa Nalu and Mob Shop (by UNM on Harvard) we've finally got some really first-rate longboard dealers in Albuquerque. I'm just glad they're here, and I hope they do really well.
Last week, I needed a set of 1/2" wedge risers to eliminate wheelbite under a flexy fiberglass deck, and they had a pair for $7 (like, $1 more than an Internet skateshop). Plus, I could just buy them on the spot and build my new board an hour later, without having to wait 4 days for delivery. I'm grateful. AND, the guy who was working there knows his merchandise, and knows more than I do about hardware options. Even better, he was sober, and intelligent (more than you can say for the "typical" skate shop employee). What's the problem?
Beats paying $250 for a stock Sector 9 (while being insulted by some arrogant, drunk jerk who doesn't know anything about longboards) at Silver Board Shop. Know what I mean?

i see what your sayin
that would be good, cause like yea there stuff is a little over priced but its all good quality stuff sold by people who actually kno there what it is that their sellin. And im not hatin on them, i have mad respect for them, and although i havent been to the mob shop, these are two shops that are well needed here in 'burque.
Hopefully they can get their site workin all the way, and you said will happen. Then we can have good quality products for a way good price

Reason: i tend to repeat myself
well fellas i have news for ya'll. they charge the prices they do while calling it "access to individualism". The next two stores are planned for THE NEW BEACH PARK in albuquerque, near carlisle and menaul and CANCUN, Mexico.
you got lucky going in when you did because only this one guy who works there part time knows anything about the boards. his name is Joel. He works there part time and works for the owners of the actual building the rest of his time.
I strongly urge you to seek other places to purchase skate goods because, in my opinion, neither the small business community or the longboarding community in Albuquerque does not need the kind of mentality Jade Stuckey (owner) possesses.
THUMBS DOWN
we will have a positive skate shop sooner or later in this town. I really can't say enough how helpful the guys at the mob shop were when i locked my keys in my cars. I have skated roma a couple times with them and they are respectful of the other people on the road, both pedestrians and skaters alike, and seem to just be good people. They sell Seismics and Landyachts completes, and the landys are 50$ cheaper than Koa Nalu.
Mob Shop
First block of Harvard south of central.
harvard is the street with the satellite on it and the shop is in the new retail/apartment buildings on the west side of the street.

Just a thought, but maybe Team Skate Safe, and Team Albuquerque should merge...
Then see if we can work out some sort of sponsor dealio going with the Mob Shop.
What do you guys think?

Wow, sounds like they really pissed you off...I take it that working there was a nightmare? I've always been treated well, as a customer, but I've cooked for a living, and I think I know where you're coming from...
It's pretty common in restaurants, actually; former employees refusing to eat there, not because the food's bad (it may be awesome) but because the boss was such a hateful, unforgivable cockwipe that one can't stand the thought of putting a dollar in his pocket, ever again. Lots of cooks and waiters boycott restaurants that have treated their fellow cooks and waitrons badly in the past. I'm totally down with it, if the cause is just.
Which is why I hope you won't mind my asking, 'cause so far my only complaint about Koa Nalu has been that the incomparably foxy Hawaiian owner Jade doesn't wear cutoffs and a bikini top to work. Bare feet would be nice, too. My God she's gorgeous, though. What did they do to you, anyhow? Is it something that warrants "voting with my feet" and refusing to spend money there, in future? Is it none of my business?
