Default 2 or 3 trucks for rain riding ?

    Hello...

When racing in wet conditions you want to avoid acqua planning ( uncontroled sliding of wheels over a thin layer of water ).

To do so, you usually use narrow wheels ( and/or make grroves on them ) to apply more pressure to help evacuate water.

Then, is it a good idea to use only 2 trucks instead of 3 to apply more pressure on the wheels ? ( The same wheight is divided on 4 wheels instead of 6 )

Also, a narrower truck ( like Randal RII 180 ) would give slightly more grip than a wider truck ( like Randa Luge ) ?

    Thanks...

well, I'd go with 3 trucks personally, more wheel on the road = more traction, also, check out landy's aqua hawgs, they have grooves in them, I'm sure they add traction too

    Hi Roadrashed.

Well, actually, in rain conditions bigger contact patch = LESS traction.

Narrow blue Kryptonics have more traction in wet than wide Lime BigZigs...

i see, i see...thanks for that, i was sure that wider is better, anyway, if that's the case, i'd go with 2 trucks, with i don't know...aqua hawgs probably, in a medium duro...soft means that they'd flatten out and slide, hard..they'd slide..haha

I'm no expert on luge-wheel hydroplaning. But, logically it seems like wheel surface area would relate to individual wheels not number of wheels. Seems like 6 wheels with the desired individual surface area (wheel width) would hold a wet road better than 4.

If none the resident experts here answers, you're only option is to experiment under the conditions you want to improve performance (reduced hydroplaning).
