Default Where to Get a Helmet suitable for Luge ?

You should all know that any Helmet over the age of 5 years is nolonger called safe, as the composites break down.

I rode for 5 yrs with my Snow wedge and had one collision, gave me a minor concusion. But if I had a real motorcycle helmet with more cusion I probaply would have been fine.

The Snow wedge helmet is no longer and over 5 yrs old.

Where do you all go for a Helmet with a low chin-visibility ?

As far as I know the site Justin posted no longer sells the wedge. And no one else does either. It may be possible to find some NOS in the back of some shop somewhere.

I have a small collection of used helmets, you can see them at Wedge Helmets

Alternatively you can try to find them on Ebay, search for wedge or indy polaris. This is actually the time to buy them, as snow mobilers pick up new helmets.

Until we get our own dedicated helmet this is your best option.

    HEY CHRIS and Justin,
Once my wife heard my helmet was 10 years old she said I cant ride unless I get a new one that is DOT and Snell approved. I searched motorcycle shops and found a MX helmet with good visability and picked it up for just $60. it's a 07 model. here it is : http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...et---2007.aspx
It fits nice and has small vents.
The snow wedge is a Fiberglass shell, the Thor is a polycarbonate composite shell, and is about the weight of the snow wedge.

That looks similar to the bell drop that a lot of standup riders are using. What is the visibilty like? It looks like it is still obscurred. And don't forget you still need to add goggles/visor.

Also what is that helmet rated for?

I just spent the big dollars and got an Icaro. Super light, very comfortable and great visibility. Unfortunately they're NOT made in America. I hated sending my cash outside of the States but it was the only helmet I liked.

Congrats to you and your baseless, unsupported post that brings absolutely nothing to the thread but negativity. Why is it unsafe? Please post a link to the test results.

Is it unsafe? Difficult to say.

The opinion is based on the fact that the the helmet is designed and rated for a different type of impact that we usually suffer in our sport. Although I think that standup guys need stronger helmets than we do.

I don't know enough about the helmets to really say how safe they are. They do have a lower rating than some other helmets. Does that mean they are less safe?

I don't know. On the other hand I wrecked last year, and may have hit my helmet. I still wear it, but is it now less safe than an icaro?
