I'd like to hear from the streetluge guys whether suspension like that is needed on the roads lugers are using, or whether the flex in a standard chassis is enough to handle it. Besides, to avoid bottoming-out the sled, that suspension would have to be very limited.

I've survived a near-miss at 45+ with a streetluge that bottomed-out and went straight through bails I was kneeling behind at a race. My impression is that sliding the chassis on the ground is bad.

That luge is a Dregs luge, designed by the late Jarrett "Dr GoFast" Ewanek (RIP). I have one myself.

However, the luge picture that was posted by TS was designed with suspension in order to soften the impact of the landing at the Red Bull Streets of San Francisco (Big Air). I haven't personally seen the actual Dregs luge with the suspension, only the CAD model.

There was one guy named Garrett Maddox at the Big Air event and his luge was designed with suspension too. There were basically springs between the trucks and the luge chassis.

Well... i dont know if a street luge would be like a car but if it is anything like it, you would behable to adjust the drift and the grip by tightening or loosening the suspension.
    Which will be extremaly handy.

Bottoming out is bad. You sort of loose traction (or go slower)
But I don't see the point of having a suspension. If you are riding on rough roads you might be better off with softer wheels, like say some rubber ones.
    Or find a smoother road.

After my first and only luge race so far at Barrett Junction, arguably the roughest/ most jumpy road skated, I would say suspension like that in mind to make a smoother ride is completely unnecessary. But for the big air comp it makes total sense.

GMR basically gave birth to street luge.
