I've survived a near-miss at 45+ with a streetluge that bottomed-out and went straight through bails I was kneeling behind at a race. My impression is that sliding the chassis on the ground is bad.

That luge is a Dregs luge, designed by the late Jarrett "Dr GoFast" Ewanek (RIP). I have one myself.

However, the luge picture that was posted by TS was designed with suspension in order to soften the impact of the landing at the Red Bull Streets of San Francisco (Big Air). I haven't personally seen the actual Dregs luge with the suspension, only the CAD model.
There was one guy named Garrett Maddox at the Big Air event and his luge was designed with suspension too. There were basically springs between the trucks and the luge chassis.
