Default Memorial Service for Paul Busse's Dad

I just found this posting over at NCDSA and I thought it belonged here as well. Paul is a great guy who is going through a very tough time right now. Please do what you can to show him your friendship and support.

Marcus

Hey Folks,

Paul's Dad passed away recently and a memorial service for him is scheduled for this Friday in Napa California. This has been a very significant and difficult loss for Paul and if you are able to and would like to attend this service, my guess is that Paul would appreciate seeing you.

Chris McBride is coming down from Seattle and he'll be staying with me and all are welcome that may need a ride or a place to stay.

Please let me know if you think you can make it. I'll get an address soon for cards or something as well.

Herman F. Busse, age 85, died at his home in Napa on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, surrounded by his family and beloved pets.

Herman was born November 29, 1921, in Roseau, MN, to the late Fred W. and Caroline Isabel Busse. He grew up in Roseau and Milwaukee, WI. Herman graduated from South Division High School in Milwaukee in 1940 with a degree in mathematics, and entered the University of Wisconsin. His education was interrupted by WW II military service as a P-38 fighter pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps , flying in the 367th Fighter Group out of England. He attained the rank of captain and completed more than 30 missions, three of which were on D-Day.

After the war Herman settled in Seattle WA. On October 6, 1948, he was united in marriage to Amabel Billie Stewart in Tacoma, WA. Herman resumed his education at the University of Washington and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Herman enjoyed a successful engineering career, and settled his young family in the East Bay in 1962. Upon retirement from Crown Zellerbach Corp in 1978, he found it difficult to leave his area of expertise, and found himself repeatedly lured out of retirement. He assumed an executive position with Container Corporation of America in Cupertino. Following his retirement from CCA a few years later, he joined the Department of Defense in Sunnyvale, training DoD engineers. He finally retired permanently to Napa< /st1lace> in 1985.

Herman was in demand in his later years as a speaker for historical aviation and veteran’s groups, sharing his wartime flying experiences. He enjoyed a close relationship with his family, and especially enjoyed annual family vacations to attend his Air Force Squadron reunions throughout the U.S. He was especially close to his youngest son, Paul, who devoted the last few years to caring for Herman in his Napa home.

Herman is survived by his daughter Susan Busse of Livermore, sons Kurt and Paul Busse of Napa; grandson Mitchell and wife Sandra Busse of Napa; grandson Evan Harté of Livermore; great-granddaughter Rachael Busse, Napa; and sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Orrie Anderson, Land O’Lakes, FL. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Billie, brothers Dan, Carl, Ray and Kermit, and sister Pat.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28 at Tulocay Cemetery, 411 Coombsville Road, in Napa.

The Busse family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of Napa Valley for their invaluable help and support.
