Trucks for a BUTTboard
well its not really a real buttboard. it is designed to be ridden sitting up and speeds around 20mph in parking garages. I made it. The dimensions are 56x11 with a 34.5" wheelbase. I happen to have extra parts for it laying around but only 1 truck, which happens to be an indy 215, and I was wondering what would be a good second truck to buy. I was thinking of putting my indy 215 in the back with a .5"/1" dewedge and maybe a bear 852 in front. maybe even an exkate torshin? what do you guys think?

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
Maybe wait for the 200 mm randal hangers. Otherwise I would just go with 180s.

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
ok. do you think that would be better than a different truck in the back and the indy in the front? also, how much riser will i need? would my wedged plan work alright?

you should put the wider in the front.

The funny thing is that Randal used to make a "buttboard luge truck" about 5-7 years ago, but has since discontinued it. Nowadays the butt boarders order a 180, with the luge bushing kit (blue/black barrels) and a 3 inch kingpin. You can still special order these by calling Randal.

i would rather not order. i have a bunch of old bushings laying around i could hook it up with.
so you guys think the randal 180s are the best choice? over the bears and exkates? It just seems to me like any amount of added width would help.

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
I know very little about butt-boarding but I did it on my Nosewalker (55"x11.5) and I had 180's on it and it was fine. Just flip the trucks for more stability, but it will get really weird trying to turn it so as long as the bushings are hard enough, you'll be fine with them regular (but i've only hit mid 30's while buttboarding).

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
For a buttboard in a garage a randal 180 would work just fine. A 215 would probably work great too. I have ridden an evo with 180s in the garages and it worked great.

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
I've taken a small dancer, (27.5" wb) over 80k buttboarding on R2 180's.
Run hard barrels all round, and a 2.75" Grade 8 kingpin.

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
i just set up the rear truck i de-wedged it 1.5" in the back and .75" in front so it almost doesnt turn at all and just leans. super stable.
im still curious about the torshin. would i have too much of a proplem with wheelbite? I was planning on using .5" of rise and possibly dewedge it aswell.
so far the randal gets the vote, which i am totally willing to use. the only reason why i am hesitant is because there will be about an inch between the edge of the wheels and the edge of the board on each side. is this ok? also, the bushings and width seem to be slightly better suited for this board, and I am a little unclear on the randals' advantage over them.

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
It's not uncommon for buttboards to be 12" wide - and the vast majority are on R2's
it's the legal width limit for racing, and a lot of boards use it.

So you are going to ride this thing, in parking garages at 20 mph?
Go get the cheapest truck you can get. I don't how much bears are, but I would expect more than Indies. Get another Indy 215, Or my recommendation is Randal 180's (they are usually only a few dollars more than Indies)
I have never heard of a "buttboard luge truc." Randal makes a Pro Luge Truck (these are the floating axles) and used to make an R2B (the B stood for buttboard). The R2B was just a modified R2 (as someone mentioned, different bushings, different kingpin)
At 20 MPH a Torsion truck would work just fine.

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
ok i got the randal. the bear trucks were only $3 more btw.
it is awesome. i feel confidant taking this thing to over 25mph for sure. im really glad i made it its super fun. thanks for the persistance, it really payed off.
randal 180s have yet to disappoint me! yay! i dont like the 150 bushings at all though...

Re: Trucks for a BUTTboard
Randals are stable and race proven. Take your 180 Randal and flip the hanger, this will lower the ride height and alter the angle (more stability at speed). Upgrade the kingpin to a Grade 8 bolt for safety reasons. If you don't like the bushings then swap them out. Randal makes two barrel style bushings in 95A and 98A durometers. Both will increase stability at higher speeds once adjusted. I like to go with aftermarket bushings like Khiro barrels for a more custom tune and ride.
Randals are always a solid choice for high speed stable trucks that turn.
