I've been buttboarding and it's fun but I really want to get into a real luge. So was wondering and place (besides roger bros) that makes luges? Or does anyone have one that will fit a bigger guy? Any tips will help me out, I know how to weld but don't want to make one cuz I can knock over a piano while dusting it haha.
My buget is 450 bucks. I have trucks for it already I had a luge I thoguht I was gonna get but deal feel thru

well it's like this...if an rbros luge was a corvette, this street missile would be a cobalt SS. they're both designed for going fast and looking cool, but the rbros is more expensive and can handle speed better. with an rbros you can buy one and go win a world-cup race (with a little practice). with a street missile, you can buy one, still race (and win) if you want to, but it's mostly for DH and racing around with your friends. so there's a reason an rbros costs twice as much as a streetmissile.
yes, an uber-grippy, square-lipped slalom wheel IS the best for sliding

looks nice. Will probably need to put pads for your back. The vibrations i bet would really kill your back after a long run.

Re: Luges?
I built a board kinda similar, same unpadded sort of pan. No problems with vibrations really, I suppose it might be nicer if I padded it but it's never worried me. The SMRTIC luge looks nice and if it's anything like his other gear I reckon it'll be tidy.

Rewsports Streetluge; AndyLally.com
Has anyone tried these? The price is unbeatable. $250
Trucks, wheels and bearing are not sold with this luge

Re: Luges?
You have a sweet site btw. Keep it up. It's hard to find places that have info on street luge organized onto 1 site.
Is there a market for aluminum luges that aren't at least $1k? I'm just wondering why lally boards didn't keep going. I would expect that people would want an aluminum luge for that price. For me, I want to start, but finding companies that make them at an affordable price are either gone or dying.

Yes there is a market for them, but you've already answered your question. You can't build a board for that cheap, and make money off of them. Andy Lally sold the board for $250 at a loss just for parts, not counting labor.
Most exotic materials, whether it is lightweight aluminum or carbon fiber, they are expensive. Coupled with the fact that there isn't a huge demand on them, to drive down manufacturing, you just can't realistically make money selling them. The Rogers Bros sell their board for $900.But that includes a dozen years of R&D and a lot of work designed to make building the board inexpensive. Yet they are still only making a small amount per luge.
