Re: NEW! Streetluge High Speed Record
In regards to the haybail issue, I doubt it would make a difference. Matt Theide ran into a light pole at Bonelli last year, covered by one haybail. He was probably going 45 to 50, and the haybail turned 100 into straw, shattering his leg.
I'D RATHER DIE ON MY FEET THAN LIVE ON MY KNEES.

Re: NEW! Streetluge High Speed Record
a bunch of haybales might help. the corner at mt panaroma had lots.
typical attitude of the majority of the people on sf
"Dude you really need to stop ruining ####, its pissing people off including me and I don't even care about skating there or not. Ruining spots deliberitly is so ####ed up."

Hmmm, looks like an interesting road. Deadly accident anyone?
Vancouver Island, Represent!

Re: NEW! Streetluge High Speed Record
The comments from the mayor of the city were rather positive on the day of the record attempt.
She said that it was nice to bring a positive ambiance to the road as it every year it takes the lives of many drivers due to brake failure and loss of control.
this road has run outs on each side every 100 meters or so.

I realize you are being sarcastic.
But it is a shame, when a lot of other communities post their "hidden gems."

Re: NEW! Streetluge High Speed Record
it a shame when people flatter themselves. as mentioned already other forums are throwing the name around. and yet nothing has happened.

Re: NEW! Streetluge High Speed Record
Even if you do show up at the hill with a skateboard.
all you see from the top is a really steep hill that leads to an inside guard-rail.
you start thinking "how am i gonna avoid it without the hay-bails?"
"Is it worth it?"
"Maybe i should have thought this through instead of driving 6 hours from montreal..."
There are no hospitals nearby.
the nearest Intl airport is a 3 hour drive away.
I'd only do this with an ambulance waiting at the top, you know like in a real event...

good reason not to skate anywhere
-
Re: NEW! Streetluge High Speed Record
You gotta start somewhere and you should skate within your limits.
and every now and then push it to the next step.
But this hill is way up there, definately a big step up in skill.

What we do is dangerous, but then so is a lot of other things.
You should take precautions when you ride, especially when on an open road. But just because there is no ambulance around doesn't mean it is a reason not to ride.
Push your limits, but push them slowly.
I'm also not a huge fan of trying to keep a road secret. People are going to find the hill. If it is a good hill share it. Especially in this case when the original riders did nothing to try and keep the location a secret.
