well i realized my 1" drop thrasher mould would press perfect drop luges, the drop goes from my shoulders to my butt perfectly, so if i press a blank and add some kind of footrest, it will basically be ready to go. i dont know anything at all about luges, but i figured some foam for padding and som ekind of rails to grab would be good. im thinking of like a lie down speed luge.

seems like that would work. i know there's a pic of a wooden luge like that somewhere.
tips to avoid speed wobbles and crashing etc when luging/buttboarding...please!
Don't crash: Turn before you hit something. If you are going too fast slow down by braking with your feet BEFORE the turn. While you can brake in the turn, it is more difficult, and means you might loose traction.
Wobbles: Tighten your trucks, as you get better loosen them. Try not to ride stiff, loosen up. Your weight might not be distributed correctly as well.
By centered do you mean in terms of left and right sides of the board? If so that's common sense.
If you mean centered in terms of where your body is in relation to the trucks, that's really horrible advice. Front trucks should be under the tops of your thighs or as close to your ass as is possible.
Am I the only one who thinks that 40 degree plates are too low for a luge? I guess on a buttboard it would be tolerable but with the wb of a street luge anything lower than 50 doesn't make any sense. This isn't speedboarding...
Is 40 degree too low? Depends on how fast you take the corner.
I use 60 degree on the front and back, although I know several people use 50 degrees on the front and the back with no problem.

60 would be crazy steep on a longboard, and since my wheelbase is going to be fairly short for a luge should i consider going shallower? do you run steeper in the front like on a longboard? since the front trucks are like half way back the board? i dunno it makes sense in my head.
what im making, if you imagine hard, is like a nemesis blank, (rectangular) with some kind of bar coming out one end for footpegs, because my abs are weak.
Hey! some I'm suddenly interested in luging and no very little about it. My friend gave me skateboard, not a long board just a regular skate board and I was going to add some stuff to it to make it into a luge board with a friend. I was going to gop to hardware store and see what I could do.

Any tips on materials or general riding?
I think you might want to avoid using that deck as anything on your luge. I imagine it's going to be too narrow to be your sitting platform, and you're going to have to be mounting the wider apart than it would let you anyway. This was posted a little ways back in the thread:
At the bottom there is a list of construction guides. If you need more information, check out the search function. just mouse over the "forums" tab at the top and it should come up third in the pop down list.

At Munnsville I used bear 52's, back flipped. I think the last day I unflipped the back and rode it very loose. However fast I was going, maybe high fifties, I was SUPER stable and had no problems keeping control.
