    Default Surf-Rodz Thresher: New Design

As the title says, We're working on developing a new shape for our Thresher deck.

    Here's the current model:

And here's some concept work we've been doing:

The most recent concept design (pictured second from the top; the un-rendered one) has the following specs:

    10* wedging at plate mounts
    Deep (nearly 1") flat-cave
33" deck length (not including plates)

This design would work especially well with flipped 10* plates, resulting in a flat truck mount and more of a drop-deck design. This results in a deck that can achieve roughly 20* of rail deflection without risking rail-bite. (when mounted with Surf-Rodz Trucks and 75mm wheels; no riser)

This thread is to discuss any progress on the development of this deck, and to get you riders' input on the design.

More info and updates will be posted here: v2 Thresher

I know from experience that the thrasher is sick, add some concave, and it'd be like sex on wheels. I'm all for it. These boards are great and such a cool, different take on the longboard design. If you ever need a test pilot who's not afraid to eat ####, just send me a PM

Thinking of adding a bit of "W" to the concave...

    Thoughts?

a full W ridge down the whole board, or one or two where the feet would be? with the additional flare at the edges that it seems you added, it seems like it would had some good foot locking potential as is,but add maybe a small W to direct the foot for tucks, and that would be pretty sweet.

The W is not for foot-locking so much as comfort... it creates nice pockets for the pads & heels of your feet to sit in. I find that skating for long periods of time hurts my feet... That is, unless I'm riding my good ol' S9 board with a slight W concave.

As for tucking... I've been thinking about a sort of gas-pedal that attaches with the inner two bolts on the mounting plates. Key here would be a way to adjust the position to fit your tuck.

looks pretty cool, it seems like you might be limiting foot room a it where the braket curves in on the outer most bolts of the peice that connects to the board.

if you got rid of that curled part of the bracket, it woulld allow your foot to tuck up agaisnt the gradually curved part of the bracket, as well as let the concave extend a bit further.

also im not sure if this would be feasible, but if the ends of the brackets could bend up a bit on the ends to match the concave, the concave could extend all the way through. then with the bracket (possibly gripped) on the outside of your foot it could make for some great foot pockets.

Yea, small W would be a good for comfort, but I'm not so sure on the gas-pedal idea. Keeping it simple and having a good place next to the W at the back for a foot is generally enough. Most top mount or drop-thru decks rely on this and it works well. If it was a drop board (demonseed, evo, etc) the drop gives it that sort of 'gas-pedal' support you're thinking of. The problem with attaching such a piece to the trucks, would be the fact that it was always be there, sticking up. I can just see now all the carnage that nice piece of metal sticking up from the back of the board will cause when you eat #### during a slide or crash.

Well ideally such a gas pedal would be an optional accessory, which you could bolt onto your board (using the inner two holes on the mounting plates) if and when you wanted it there. By no means would we make this a standard attachment... I personally would only want it for dedicated DH runs (e.g. racing)

@SpeedDemon: Modifying the plates is on the table, but it would be a hassle and would make the deck incompatible with the current plates. I don't know if you've ridden the Thresher before, but I think you'd find that the plates already provide a nice foot-stop functionality. I actually prefer the small point of contact at my front toe to a wider footstop... the latter forces your foot into the same angle all the time, while my foot tends to rotate a bit based on what I'm doing.

Here's another concept idea... asymmetrical bi-directional drop-through. The asymmetrical concave fits your feet really really comfortably and improves toeside cornering, while the fact that it's bi-directional means it's not stance-specific... so all us goofy riders can have one too, without a custom order.

Interesting. A couple things; A)it's not a thresher, as per this thread, but that's more of a busting your balls issue than anything. B) FSM + hellcat + drop speed= this but with sharper edges and a much wider w concave in the middle. Interesting design and idea. I am a fan of bi-directional boards. Materials going to used in it? Plys? Flex? Wheelbase? I like the creativity and ideas, keep it up!

And if you're using solidworks and have no qualms with it, I would totally want to play around with your designs. I have no means, resources, or contacts with which to steal yo $hit, but I am a fan of experimenting as well (hence chemistry major)

    A) Very true, perhaps this is turning into more of a "Sean's Surf-Rodz deck concepts" thread
    B) You forgot the RBros Asym in the equation

I've really taken a liking to light and stiff boards lately, so I'd say 8ply maple (this would be stiff enough for me, as I'm only 130lbs). Wheelbase... probably something like 30-32". 11" wide, and while it's not really a drop-deck, the truck-mounting parts would be at the same height as the top of the concave... makes a nice little pocket for the pads of your feet.

I'm using Rhinoceros 3D, so I could export to solidworks... but I'm afraid I can't share the models, opens up issues with rights management and the like. I'm sure you can make do with the pics I've given you
